ftitttc nnoltnccntents. CITY OF CHESTER. THE CORONATION OF THEIR MAJESTIES IT IN Gr EDWARD VII. ——— AND QUEEN ALEXANDRA. The Right Worshipful the Mayor, and the Committee in charge of the arrangements confi- dently trust that on this occasion the citizens will heartily co-operate by a free display of Flags, and by Decorations and Illuminations. Public Buildings, including the Town Hall, the Public Market, and the City Gates will be Decorated and Illuminated on the 26th and 27th June instant; may the Committee be permitted to appeal to Proprietors of Clubs, Banks, Hotels, and other prominent buildings and business premises in the principal thoroughfares (not forgetting routes to the River and the Railway Stations) to Decorate and Illuminate ? Where Illumination doesn't run to electric light or gas, it may be very effectively carried out by Chinese or Japanese Lanterns, or small coloured lamps, or by placing candles in windows facing the streets. At trifling cost, a striking effect may be produced by the lighted candles, small coloured lamps, or lanterns, being arranged in rows, or festoon-fashion, or other grouping to suit the taste of each individual; if candles, against (on the inside) of each window, all blinds being of course kept up. Whatever Light is used should be lighted not later than 9.30 p.m., and be kept burning till midnight. Peace is now happily an accomplished fact, and the Committee are inspirited to hope that Chester will this time show such a gay and festive appear- ance as shall emphasize its exceptional loyalty to our King and Queen, late our Earl and Countess, and thereby also most fittingly testify our attach- ment to the Prince and Princess of Wales, now to our great gratification Earl and Countess of Chester. LADIES AND GENTLEMEN,-In conse- quence of the death of the late Mr. Roger Jackson, J.P., a vacancy is caused in the represen- tation of your Ward in the City Council. At the request of a large number of the ratepayers and residents in the Ward I have con- sented to allow myself to be nominated as a candidate for the vacancy. Having been a ratepayer in the city for more than 30 years, and a resident in the ward for 14 years, I think I may assume that I am not unknown to you. In asking you to elect me, I am unwilling to give you a number of specified pledges of what I will do if elected, but content myself with assuring you that my motto would be efficiency with economy," and that it would be my constant aim to further the best interests of your Ward and of the city generally.
