The first annual dinner to commemorate the first employment of Volunteers in actual service, which took place on Friday evening in London, and is reported in another column, owes its inception to Captain T. DEATH OF AN INDIAN MUTINY | VETERAN. — Last week the remains of Mr. 1 William Henry West, were interred in St. Mary's I Churchyard. At the age of 14 years the deceased enlisted in the Northumberland Fusiliers, and his 21 years of Army service included an experience in the Indian Mutiny. For 26 years he occupied the position of book-keeper to Messrs Henry Roberts and Sons, the County Stores. Deceased was a remarkably well-read man and of more than average intelligence, and this fact in conjunction with his unvarying courtesy accounted for his widespread popularity.
