The Centenary of the British…
The Centenary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. We are glad to find that Carmarthen is determined not to be behind hand in its loyalty to this excellent Society, and in its desire to celebrate itsi centenary at the begin- ning of March. A strong and representative Committee,, coapprising the English and Welsh sections, has been appointed and two meet- ings have been held at the Council Chamber, the first undf the presidency of Mr T. E. Brigstooke, J.P., and, the second on. Monday evening last, presided over by Mr John Lewis, J.P., Penllwyn Park. It bias been resolved, to thoroughly canvass the, town for special centenary subscriptions. It was also: agreed that all churches and chapels should be asked to make the first Sunday in March a special Bible Sunday randl that collections be made at eaoh of the services. On the; 18th of March, a public d-amonstad- tion will be made by way of a public meeting, presided over by the Lord Bishop of St. David's, supported by a representaitive from the Bible House, as well as some of thie more important inhabitants of the district. The aim is to secure a: Centeniary Fund of a, quarter of a million guineas. It is most desirable that Carmarthen, connected as it is < with the, Charleses (the Rev Thomas Charles being one of the Founders of the, Bible, Society) should do its part worthily, and send at least one hundred guineas towards t-hei 25,000 guineas. If everyone who possesses a Bible of his own would show his gratitude by some personal gift, this sum: couldl be raised many times over. The town has been divided into districts, and the Committee has appointed the following collectors for each district: — Smlman. st., Church st., Parade road, The Parade, Esplanadte, North Parade, Avenue, Feniuel st., and Towyside—Miss Lewis, Leightofn House; Miss Muriel Morris, Miss M. ~ Heavy Seas at Ferrysidc.
Heavy Seas at Ferrysidc. PLEASURE GROUNDS WASHED AWAY. The heavy seas of a second high tide which swept the shore of Carmarthen Bay on Friday have completely removed the pleasure ground of Ferryside, the' popular seaside resort. The rocks have, been stripped, and the sands com- pletely carried beyond the station. In addi- tion to this exraordinary occurrence, the per- manent way of the G.W.R. main line has been endangered, while a culvert, and smugg- lers cave have been exposed. This cave was closed about 50 years ago.
