THE IMPERIAL YEOMANRY. The last batch of the Imperial Yeomanry left Aldershot for South Africa on Saturday. All those remaining at Alilershot, who are sick oi otherwise unfit for service at the front, ars to be discharged from the service forthwith.

STEAM ENGINES. Mr. Jacoby moved the second reading of the Steam Engines and Boilers (Persons in Charge) Bill, which he said was intended to ensure that all persons in charge of boilers save those u.sed for domestic, farming, or agricultural purposes, should have certificates of competency. Steam- ships were, of course, exempted, and what was really intended was that the bill should apply to mmes. Mr. Jesse Collings, on behalf of the Government, said the accidents which occurred were mostly the result of negligence, which was covered by a clause in the Factory Acts, and he did not favour the bill. It was decided, how- ever, to allow it to pass the second reading, and refer to a Select Committee.

A Special Cominitceee Meeting of the T4w" Council was held on Wednesday e%,eiiiii to decide in what form the men who went out W South Africa with the Volunteer Service Co^ pany of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers in January* 1900, should be welcomed home to Denbi^ next week. The men are due to arrive at Southampfco11 on Tuesday next, and will proeeed in a body 40 Wrexham, arriving in their respective townS I day or two later. It was unanimously decided that the May0* should officially meet the men at the Station and then accompany them up the Town to the Cross and formally welcome them home. The inhabitants are requested to display bunting oil the occasion. The men will be presented with an illanaiflT ated address which it is intended permanently hang in the Drill Hall, and phoo copies of the address will be given to ea. man. It was also agreed to entertain the men at Public Dinner in the Drill Hall, on Friday. the 10th instant, at 7.30. As the accommoda- tion is limited, early application should be made to the Town Clerk for tickets. The Local Company of Volunteers will be admitted at a reduced rate. PRESENTATION TO TaE DENBIGH FIRE BRIGADE. On Monday evening, Alderman Humphrey8 Roberts, chairman of the Fire Brigade coo1* mittce, presented long-service medals to ø. number of the officers and men of the Denbigh Firo Brigade for service of 10 years and up- wards. Among the Councillors present were the Mayor (A Lloyd Jones, Esq), and gr Xeepfer Mr Ellis Williams explained that Capt Lloyd had gone out with the ellaille practising for May-Day and was unable to a tend. Mr Humphreys Roberts, in his opening remarks, said he had been asked to perform very pleasing duty, namely, to present certain oi'ticprs and men of the Denbigh Fire Brigade H'itn medals tor long-service, and he under- stood that those medals were for service of ten years and upwards. Ho noticed that there were seven members out of the fourteen entitled to the medals, which was very satiS- factory (hear, hear). He was told that after another five years' service another bar would be aided ts the medals, and he thought there was ample time for each member of the Brigade to obtain it. It gave him great pleasure to be there that night, and the tow-01 in his opinion, should be very thankful to the members of the Brigade for taking upon thol11' selves the oliice of which no remuneration Wag attached. He regretted that there were 0° more members of the Council present, and bl was glad to find the Mayor present, who ",11 always ready to do his duty as Mayor in all circumstances. He begged once more to congratulate the men upon their long service (applause). Mr Humphreys Roberts then proceeded to present the following members with the 101g service medals and as each member went up iO his turn he was heartily applauded. He thought they ought to be very proud to have a chairman likg Mr Humphreys Roberts, who always took deep interest in the Brigade in the CounC'I- They had been highly complimented, and be thought they well deserved it, and Denbigh ought to be proud of having such a Brigade- He was of opinion that it was time they had new engine. He did not know what the cost of those engines were, but he thought they should have a new one in ease of emergency- He had very great pleasure in endorsing 31C Humphreys Roberts' remarks. v Lieut J Morris Davies said on behalf of the officers aud men of tbe Denbigh Fire Brigade he wished to thank Mr Humphreys ior his kindness in presenting them with medals.
