NORTH WALES NARROW GAUGE RAILWAYS. SNOWDON AND BEDDGELERT DISTRICT. rpHIS Railway (the Gauge of which is only M Two Feet) passes through some of the most Picturesque Scenery in Wales. Starting from Dinas Station, three miles from Carnarvon, on the London and North-Western Railway, the Line ascends for two miles at a gradient of 1 in 48, to Tryfan Junction, whence a Branch goes up to Bryngwyn. Thence the Line runs through the Valley ef Bettws Garmon, following from Waenfawr to Rhyd-ddu the same route as that taken by the Coaches from Carnarvon to Beddgelert. The Scenery at this point becomes most picturesque. Lake Quellyn is a beautiful expanse of water, upwards of a mile in length, and a quarter of a mile in width. It abounds with fish of all kinds; the fishing is free, and boats can be hired for fishing or excursions on the Lakes at the Snow- don Ranger Hotel, which is close to Snowdon Station. Here a fine view of Snowdon and its rugged precipices is obtained. The ascent can be made from this place, the distance being about tb'ree miles to the summit. From Snowdon Station to Rhyd-ddu, the terminus, the Line ascends con- tinuously. From this point the Line winds along the mountain sido by rugged rocks and through wild > seener3,, not to be surpassed for its grandeur in ) Wales, until it reaches Rhyd-ddu. The view from this portion of the Line, from the Bridge to Rhyd- ddu, is very fine, and can only be obtained from the Raii way. The shortest and best ascent of Snowdon :s made from Rhyd-ddu, the distance to the summit being only 2^ miles, against 5 miles from Llanberis. 2 Rhyd-ddu Station is situated em the side of Snowdon itself, and the path (which is a good cartway for nearly half the ascent) leads directly frdm it. Guides meet all Trains. Rhyd-ddu is about Three Miles distant from Beddgelert; the road passes by the curious rock known as Pitt's Head, from its likeness to the profile of that eminent statesman. Tourists by this Railway have time to visit Beddgelert, the Grave of Gelert, and Pont Aberglaslyn, and can return by the same Route, or can proceed by Coach to Llanberis, and thence to Carnarvon by the London and North-Western Railway, and back to Llandudno, &c. Conveyances meet all Trains on arrival at Rhyd-ddu. Arrangements have now been made for passengers to be booked through to Beddgelert from Dinas. Tickets, which will include the Rail and Coach Fares, can be obtained at Dinas Station. r- The isrd Class Single Fare Dinas to Beddgelert, is Is. 9d.; return do., 3s. Trains do not run on Sundays. S.
