TOTAL ABSTINENCE.—Meetings in connection with the British Women's Temperance Association were held on Sunday afternoon and evening at Lammas- street Chapel Schoolroom (kindly lent for the occasion). In the afternoon, the chair was taken by Mrs Jones, Hyfrydle-terrace (president of the Carmarthen branch). There was a large attendance of children of the differ- ent Sunday Schools. The principal speaker was Miss Haveley, of London, organizer of the B.W.T. Associa- tion. Miss Haveley treated the subject of temperance to the little ones very plainly.—In the evening at 8 o'clock, the chair was taken by Mrs Pugh Evans, who was supported on the platform by Miss Spurrell, Mrs Jones, Hyfrydle-terrace, and Miss Haveley, of Lon- don. Mr Edmunds of Water-street, undertook the devotional part. The attendance at this meeting was very meagre, notwithstanding that notices were sent to every chapel in the town. Not even a single min- ister was present. Miss Haveley spoke for upwards of 30 minutes, and strongly appealed to professing Christians to give a helping hand to put down intem- perance that was so rampant in those days.—On Sun- day evening next another meeting will be held at th6 Salvatiyn Army Barracks, when speakers from Swin- don, &c., will address the meeting.
