The report of the directors of the Great Western Railway submitted to the proprietors at the half-yearly general meeting, held at the 1 0 In company's offices, Paddington Station, on a Thursday (yesterday), showed tliegross receipts for the half-year ending the 30th of June to be:-From passengers, parcels, mails, ifec., £ 1,711,869; merchandise, live stock, lC" £ 1,160,910; minerals, Y,1,033,053- total, £ 3,905,832 an excess of Y,200,417 over the corresponding period in 1888. The expendi- ture was For maintenance of way, 4122,797 locomotive and c.irringo stock, S,692,883 traffic and guneml charges, £ 716,273 G jvernrm-nt duty and rates and taxe*, X 148,071 totil, X 1,980,021 an increase of L97,333 over the corresponding plrjo.1 of 1888. The balnnce available for dividend among the proprietors of Ordinary Stock, after payment of the dividends on the Guaranteed and Preference Stocks and other fixed charges, is £ 571,244 16s 9d. This b^lanc; admits of a dividend on the Ordinary Stock at the rate of 5* per cent. per annum, leaving a sum of £ 18,219 16:i 9d to be carried forward, as against X, 11, 193 9s 2d carried Torward in the corresponding half-year. The report then dealt with general matters, among which was a paragraph stating that the Bills promoted for the absorption by this com- pany of the Llanelly Railway and Dock Com- pany having received the Royal Assent the amalgamation took place on the 1st of July last.
