The persons chargeable with duty, at the rate of 21 per cent., are exempt in cases where the pro- bate or letters of administration have been obtained on or after the 1st of -Tune, 1881, in respect of the estate and effects, accord- ing to the value, wher?°f duty shall have been paid on the "ill- davit, or inventory, or account, in conformity withjthe 44 Vict., cap. 12. The husband or wife is not chargeable with duty; and the husband or wife of a relation is chargeable with duty at the lower rate.

INHABITED HOUSE DUTIES.— Shops, Inns, Farm Houses, and Lodging Houses: Rent or Annual Value not exceeding P,40, 2d. in the pound; not exceed- ing £ 60, 4d. above £ 60, 6d.— Private Houses Not exceeding £ 40, 3d. not exceeding £60, 6d. above JE60, X9. INCOME TAX.—Incomes of R150 a year and less than Z400, 6d. in the pound; but 2120 is not taxed. Annual incomes of 2400 and up- wards are rated at 6d. without deductions. These taxes are payable 1st January, 1892.
