THE VISIT ENDS ABRUPTLY. Harry Day, a respectable looking man, of 33, Hoskins-street, Newport, stood at the defendant's bar at the Newport Police Court yesterday to answer a charge of having assaulted Polly Davies, wife of a marine engineer, of 18, Wheeler- street. Mrs Davies visited the defendant's house several times during the last week to see a friend who was living in apartments in the house, and late on Saturday defendant entered the apart- ments and ordered Mra Davies to leave the house, as he objected to having his premises turned into a public-house. Mrs Davies declined to go unless she was asked to by her friend's husband, and then defendant took her by the back of the neck and the arm and rushed her into the street, Mrs Davies's arm being bruised in the scuffle. Day declared that he had gone to bed, but could not sleep owing to the disturbance which was going on downstairs. The magistrates told defendant that he had no right to enter his tenant's apartments, and fined him 10s 6d for the assault.
