We have been requested to insert the following with reference to the Beaconsfield Diamond Mines It is evident that at the present time on the London Stock Ex- change intrinsic worth is overlooked, and that some securities are now to be bought at about half their real value. One of the most notable instances of this fact is that of the Beaconsfield Diamond Mines Shares, which can now be purchased at J61 5s per share fully paid—that is, less than half the price at which they were selling on the London Stock Exchange two months since. This fact is the more remarkable when it is considered that large quantities of fine quality diamonds are now being won daily, and at the statutory meeting of the company- held at the end of October it was shown that the plant was in perfect working order, and that as greater depth was attained the volume of precious stones increased and their quality improved. The last return received exhibits a net profit of C 1, 0 0 for the four weeks ending November 9th, 1895. and this amount does not include the large diamonds found. This is in itself satisfactory but so successful has been the last six months' working that a sufficient profit has been made to pay a dividend of 40 per cent. The total capital is only 285,000, and of this £70,000 has been issued, the balance being reserved for additional working capital if required. The present situation of the com- pany is still better when it is considered that the Beaconsfield Company owns a large number of gold claims whose value im- mensely increases the resources of this very successful corporation. To the investors with spare cash, at command this is an opportunity to pick up shares at low prices which offer many attractions as an invest- ment yielding big returns with every possibility of their very shortly doubling in price." 7075

NEWPORT WEEKLY EXCHANGE.
NEWPORT WEEKLY EXCHANGE. TOWN HALL. WEDNESDAY. The attendance on "CliaDge to-day was large. A good demand for steam and house coal prevailed, and prices were firm. There were good inquiries for pitwood, and prices, if anything, are of an upward tendency. The dealings in manufactured iron and steel proved that these trades were brisk. An improvement in freights was reported. The coal shipments for the week have amounted to practically 65,000 tons. This quantity would have been augmented materially had it not been for the boisterous weather which prevented the arrival of tonnage. Nearly all firms have their stems fall, and their is every indifcation that between now and the end of the year business will be more active than it lias been for some time past. In confirmation of this we may state that the s.s. St. Irene is due to-night to load 5,000 tons cargo the Sumoa is stemmed to arrive next week to take in 9,500 tons the s.s. Idar on the 26th December to load 7,000 tozi.3 and among the other laige steamers due are the Why- bridge, Hijeen, Harold, Caiupodore, Alacrity, &c., &c. The quantity of iron ore rect-ived has not been so large as in previous weeks. The activity in the ship repairing trade is well main- tained.
