Fall. -International Coal yA, to 3. The Barry Railway traffic return for the week ending 29th December, shows an increase in the mineral traffic on the railway, the figures showing an excess of no less than S577, but there was a large decrease in the iock dues, namely, £291, so that the net increase as shown was nearly JE69. The return or traffic on the Barry Railway learly completes the year. The holders of Barry Stock will be gratified to find that the aggregate increase on the 26 weeks has been V,,4,453, and the total earnings 2173,183, as compared with 2148,725 for 1893. Seeing the total amount of Barry Ordinary Stock is less than one million sterling, and as -210,000 gives 1 per sent, return on the whole, it is evident that the very large increase shown during the past half-year would, if the directors decided to distribute it, make a material addition to ohe dividend, the increased earnings having been no less than 16 per cent. as compared with the second half of 1893. The Rhymney Railway traffic receipts ar& C5,003, against £3,080 for the correspond- ing week of last year, a decrease of about 9-36. The Cambrian Railway Company steadily maintains its satisfactory rate of progress, the increase of last week being £35, and the aggregate for the half-year having been over 24,000. The traffic receipts on the Taff Vale Rail- way last week amounted to £11,306, com- pared with £ 12,652 in the corresponding week last year, thus showing a decrease of Ll,M for the week. The aggregate .9 increase for the half-year is 924,313. We are desired by Mr T. Morel to state that, contrary to a report recently circu- lated, be has not severed his connection with the Bute Dry Docks Company.

YOUTHFUL DETECTIVES. At the North London Police-court Arthur Goodall (32), describing himself as a potato sales- man, of Oorbyn-street, Islington, was charged with attempting to break and anttr No. 41, Wyatt-road, Highbury. Albert Beadle and Oscar Deitrich, two schoolboys, livin- in Wyatt-road, said they were playing near the house ou Monday aftornool1 and heard a crash of glass. They saw the prisoner walking away, and he mumbled something as he passed. They went and examined the door, and saw the broken glass. They went to tho house next door, and ascertained that thero was no one at home at No. 41. They followed the prisoner until they met a police-inspector, to whom they told what they had seen. The accused was then arrested, and when searched at the police-station was found to have in his pockets a knife, a screw- driver, a gimlet, and 16 keys. The prisoner said fit went to the house to call for a man named Wilkinson (who did not live there), but nobody answered the door, and it was when knocking rather sharply that the glass broke. It was very thin glass. In reply to the magistrate, Inspector Citdyfiaiditwastilin glass. The prisoner asked the magistrate to deal with the case at once, becauso his wife was in delicate health.'—Mr Lane If I dealt with it now I should send you for trial.-Prisoner was remanded.

BABY NINETEEN YEARS OLD. At the Thamos Police-court a poor woman, carrying what appeared to be ft ohild of between two and three years of age, with an abnormally large head, applied to Mr Mead for a little assistance from the poor-box. She stated that three years since her husband was killed through falling from a scaffold, and she was left with three children. The child she then had in her arms was 19 years old, bnt was perfectly helpless, and had to be attended to like any baby a few months old. She could only indulge in baby. prattle, and did not understand what was said to her. Mr Mead said Sergeant King would inquire into the ca8.
