. THE MAYBRICK CASE.
THE MAYBRICK CASE. At last it is cortain that the Mavbriek case is to be reopened, for Sir Charles Russell has been secured on behalf of the prisoner, and will raise several new technical points. It is not improbable that a writ of habeas corpus will be applied for. It may not be generally known that Mrs May- brick is an American, and her countrywomen have raised a large fund for the purposes of the defence, which has been transmitted to the Baroness d. Roques. Mr Theodore Lumley, of the firm of Lumley and Lumley, has been en- trusted with the conduct of the case and if he is as successful in Mrs Maybirck's as he was in the case of Mrs Langworthy and Mrs (Jathcart, the agita- tion will have teen useful after ail.

MA HOMED AN MARRIAGE IN LIVERPOOL.
MA HOMED AN MARRIAGE IN LIVER- POOL. OnThursday DrGholab Shah, of Cabul, Afghan- istan, was married according to the riles of Maho nledan faith to Hannah Bodda Robinson, widow of the late Mr Spencer Robinson, who for many years held Government appointments in India. The bridegroom is the eldest son of the late Sheikh Mahommed, chief of an Afghan hill tribe, and during the last Afghan war took part in many engagements. On Thursday he was attired in the picturesque Afghan cap, now- ing turban, and other characteristic garments. The bride was dressed in a travelling costume. The ceremony was performed in accordance with the Moslem law, both parties being Mahomqdans, the bride and her family having embraced that religion some months ago. About 30 Mahometans of the local congregation were present. The bride and bridegroom afterwards left for London, en route for Constantinople, whera they will reside.

THE GRANGETOWN "MUNICIPAL…
THE GRANGETOWN "MUNICIPAL ELECTION. TO THE EDITOR. SIR,—I feel that I ought to apologise to yets and to your readers for occupying any part ot your paper with matters which are not of much importance to any but Mr Marshal! and myself. Still, being publicly challenged, and having the truth upon my side, it behoves me to defend my reputation. Mr Marshall, writing in his own inimitable arrogant, style, says that he grants me another week "to prove my case. This i" I very kind of liun. Let me inform him that J do not require any time, much less a week, tc prove conclusively all that I said on October 31. I If he will name time and place, I and the gentle- man whom I shall select will meet him and any gentleman that he may select. These gentle- men will take into consideration all my assertions seriatim, and all the proofs, and if I shall net prove to the hilt all that I said, I engage to pay £20 to the Cardiff Infirmary- of course, provided I shall not prove them to the satisfaction of these gentlemen. Mr Marshall will pay £20 to that institution. And in order that there may be no mistake about this I propose that the money be deposited now by both of us in the hands of the editor of the South Wales Daily Neivs. if he will kindly accept the trust, together with a small sum to cover the expense of the investigation. I suggest this course in order to show my bona ndes in the matter, but if Mr Marshall has a better method of investigating the matter and arriving at the truth I shall be quite prepared to adopt it.—I am, &c., S. MXLDON. Grangetown, Nov. 27.
THE STRIKE AT THE MARGAJVI…
THE STRIKE AT THE MARGAJVI ACID WORKS. TO THE EDITOR. SIE,—Will you please be good enough to allow me a little space in your valuable paper to say a word or two on this uncalled-for strike at the above place ? I do not know how long this place has been working, but 1 know this much—that it has been working for a good many months m tnis year on very quiet and peaceable terms that is to the satisfaction of both sides-workmen and managers. Now, a few weeks ago a new system or method of working was introduced by the management, and the workmen, purposely to please their manager, as duty bound, cried it, under the impression, as they understood, that it was to last only a few days but the method was forced on them day after day, until it became a Jaw and a rule in their daily doings. Differences arose with the manager, which ended in severalot the men being suspended. We cannot call it a strike, but a partial lock-out. Now, we as work- men consider suc'.i Ull action â, lr1L cry unfaic. Can it be reasonable to expect a mau to work 12 hours in such a place as this; If you, sir, were to be at the works while we are in the act oi doing this new method, you would no doubt say the same as ourselves.—I am, &c., Nov. 24th. UNIONIST.
INTERMEDIATE EDUCATION AT…
INTERMEDIATE EDUCATION AT PEM BROKE DOCK. TO THE EDITOR. SIR,—I trust the correspondence which is taking place in your columns anent an interme- diate school for Pembroke Dock may be the means of arousing some enthusiasm, which, up to the present time, has not been a factor in this question. When the committee chosen to deter- mine the locale of the schools were appointed, something approaching interest in the quest-ion was manifested, and hopes were expressed on every side that Pembroke Dock would find favour in the eyes of the committee. The committee, to their credit, soon made it apparent that whatever other place would be looked over, Pembroke Dock would have the opportunity of accepting or re- jectmg the conditions pertaining to the establish- ment of an intermediate school. With the ofScial announcement that Pembroke Dock was one oi the selected places came the end of all interest in the matter. No public meeting- has been called, the scope of teaching has never been made known to the inhabitants, neither has any prominence been given to the splendid oppor- tunity afforded to Pembroke Dock youths in the far-reaching course of instruction in mathematics devised by the committee, and so necessary for adniisgiou into her Majesty's dockyard. We are to be pitied in not possessing, like most towns of on1' (sise find importance, a weekly newspaper, endeavouring to enlighten the inhabitants of Pem- broke Dock on questions of local importance. Would you believe it, sir, that tho only occasions on which we have the semblance to a leading article are in Christmas week and New Year's week, when the same old stock phrases have been religiously .trotted out for upwards of 15 years In concluding, I venture to assert that if a public meeting were called, the subject duly ventilated, and a subsequent canvass made, Pem- broke Dock would rise to the occasion.—I am, &c., SCRUTATOR, Pembroke Dock, Nov. 26.
WEST CARMARTHENSHIRE LIBERAL…
WEST CARMARTHENSHIRE LIBERAL ASSOCIATION. TO THE EDITOR. SI?.,—It would interest many of your reader* in this locality to know if the above Association now exists; and if so, how is it that it ha.s not held its annual meetings in accordance with the rule originally agreed upon. The last time it met it had as president the late Mr W. R. H. Powell, M.P. Did his worthy and popular successor in Parliament succeed him in the presidential chair of this Association; and if so, by whom, and when was he appointed ? Or has the Association been without a president since the lamented death of Mr Powell? Could the secretary, Mr Jeremy, give some information with regard to these ques- tions? In view of the fact that the genera! election will, at no very distant date, be upon us, would it not be well for the Liberal party here, as well as everywhere else, to be well aware of their exact position, and to be so well organised as to be able to show a united and impregnable front to the enemy when the day of battle cjinesH -I am, &c., GOMER HENRY.
