TOWYN", Our representative in Towyn is Mr 0 W Hughes, Cader View, and we shall be much obliged if clerks of local authorities, secretaries of sports, &c., would send notices of meetings, and orders for advertise- ments and printing to that address. f OBITUARY.—The death took place on Sunday evening of the 3^-year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Davies, Isandula Terrace, from consumption. She had been ailing for a considerable time and passed away quietly as stated, after undergoing very much suffering borne with great fortitude. AMBULANCE.—At the last meeting of this class an interesting lecture was delivered by Dr Lewys. Lloyd on "Haemorrhage" to a good attendance, after which the members practised bandaging and other practical work, This was the fifth lecture, there being altogether 10 necessary to complete the course. EASTER TERM.—The County School re-opened on Tuesday for the Easter term after the Christmas holidays. A large number of scholars attending, all ready and anxious to pursue their studies. Their appearance relieves a good deal of the general quietness of the place. CONCERT. — On reference to our advertising columns it will be seen that a grand concert is announced to be held at the Assembly Rooms next Wednesday evening, the proceeds to be devoted to the funds of the Improvement Society. Some well known artistes have been engaged and a very good meeting is anticipated. IMPROVEMENT.—The shrubs and small plants recently provided by the Cambrian Railways Co. for beautifying the approaches to the railway station are being planted by the platelaying staff and the result is very encouraging, the bleak aspect of the place giving way to a garden-like appearance which is very pleasing to the eye. The Company have set an example which might with advantage be copied in other desolate. looking spots in the town. MILDNESS ON THE COAST.-A certa:n proof of the mild and equable temperature which prevails at the Coasb resorts during the winter months can be seen at gardens of the railway stations where already primroses and daisies have began to blooin. Too much cannot be made of tb;s fact, foe we feel sure that if it was well koowo a large number of visitors would take up the:- residence here duricc the cold season of the year. Fj!:TiYAf<. — To-morrow (Friday) the annual singing festival of the Methodist Churches in the district will be held at the Bethel Chapel, Towyn, when a large and successful gatbering is anticipated. The singers will be led by Mr David Evans, Mus. Bac., London, while the dutie3 of accompanists will be carried out by Miss May Roberts, L.R.A.M. Towyn, and Miss Richards, Sen. Cert. R.A.M.' Abetdovey. The meeting will be presidad over in the afternoon by Mr Edwatd Rowlands, Rennal, and in the evening by the Rev R R Williams, M.A., Towyn. TiLWYNGWRXL, OBITUARY.—The death occurred on Tuesday week of Mr Thomas Griffiths, Cambrian Stores, an old and much respected inhabitant of the place. He leaves behind him two sons and two daughters to mourn his loss, and with whom much sympathy is felt. He was the chairman of the local School Board and a deacon of the Methodist Church, a sure proof of the esteem in which he was held by the inhabitants of the village. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place at Ltanelltyd church- yard on Saturday. The co; t"ge was followed by a very large number of friends. The deceased was for many years engaged in business at Llanelltyd. MtsiCAt. Through the generosity of Mr R Smith, Manchester, an old friend of the village, a very much needed acquisition in the shape of a piano has been obtained. Mr Smith offered to contribute zCl2 10s for this object if a similar sum were raised by the children by the end of the year. This was successfully accomplished, subscriptions being given by various friends and visitors, the children working hard to secure the reward.

ABERDOVEY PRAYER MEETINGS.-In accordance with the regular custom prayer meetings were held at all the chapels during the whole of last week, at which collections were made for the benefit of the differ- ent institutions supported by the various denomin- ations. SHIPPING—The "Prince Llewelyn" frem Lon. don, with cement arrived last week, and also the Dora" from Liverpool, with a cargo of general goods for the district. On Tuesday the Kynite arrived from London with cement, and others at present in the harbour are the Sarah Davies and Dovey Belle," both of Aberdovey. T EMPERANCE. At the weekly temperance meet- ing held on Sunday evening, Mr John Pugh pie- siding, interesting addresses were delivered by Messrs Ffestin Williams, E L Rowlands and John Lumley. During the evening a capital recitation was delivered by Miss Lizzie J Walters. There was a good attendance. ECCLESIASTICAL. The Bishop of Bangor arrived here on Friday for a stay, we understand of three months, at Panteidal Hall, his beautiful residence overlooking the estuary. It is situated three miles from Aberdovey on the road to Pennal. DT^A^ING SOCIETY. At the last meeting of the Debating Society, Mr Owain Jones, A.P.S., presid- ing, an interesting discussion took place. The subject for the evening was A vote of confidence ir the Urban District Council," to be proposed by Mr W Jones, R.O., and a vote of censure to be pro- posed by Mr Fiestin Williams. There was a large and representative meeting, the members of the Council being there in full force. Mr Ffeetin Wil- liams opened with an eloquent speech, and brought some powerful arguments, both theoretical and practical, to prove that the Council needed censure. Mr William Jones responded to the attack with spirit and championed the Council in a very able manner. The matter was then thrown open to discussion. STFGDEN DEATH.- On Saturday afternoon a sad occurrence took place. As Mrs ÑIary Williams, of Llitywyn, Rhydymaen, was walking up the Market square she suddenly fell. She was removed to the Cambrian Restaurant, but, although medical assist- ance was immediately summoned, she never re- covered consciousness and passed away on Sunday morning. The deceased leaves behind her a large family to mourn her loss. PRESENTATION. On Friday afternoon an inter- • estmg presentation took place at the English Pres- byterian Chapel, when Mrs John Williams wife of the Rev John Williams, B.A., was presented with a handsome timepiece, suitably inscribed by the Dolgelley Branch of the Women's Temperance Association, as a slight recognition of her untiring energy in the temperance cause. The presentation was made by Mrs Williams, Maesffynnon, an.'u;' appropriate addresses were delivered by Mrs P„ Q Evans and Mrs Wynne Williams. Mr Williams presented his report which elated. that the attendance was considerably lower than the average, that at the girls' school being very much so.—Mr Allen remarked that this state of things was unsatisfactory, and that something should be done to get regular attendance. He also thought it was important that teachers should take interest in the matter.—Mr Williams was asked to try and improve matters in the coming months. A QUESTION OF CHEQUE-SIGNING. Mr Allen drew attention to the fact that Misi Pritchard, had given notice of her resignation on the 6th of December. The cheque for her salary had, however, been drawn up to December 20th.- He thought this was illegal and went beyond the authority of the board.—The Chairman said that the cheque signed by two members had been brought to him for signature. He then expressed", his surprise it had not been brought up at the last- meeting. — Mr Guthrie Jones stated the Miss. Pritchard had attended up to December 20th to mark the register, on consideration that the, salary should be paid up to then. She had done' splendid work for the board and he thought they should be proud of the opportunity of paying her, up to the Christmas holidays (hear, hear). Mr Allen said he was not against that at all, but the- practice of signing cheques out of the meeting. Ifc, was unanimously decided that in future no cheque* be signed out of the board meeting. MISCELLANEOUS. An application for inorease of salary, by Misses Lloyd and Owen was referred to the staff com- mittee. The scheme recently suggested by the* County Governing Body was also considered.
