MACHYNLLETH. GOOD FRIDAY.—The services in the Parish Church and Christ Church were the same as on Sund'avs, and all were well attended. The Rev D T~ttcr^h«s* preached in the Parish Church morning and even- ing, and Canon Trevor preached in Christ Church. Notwithstanding the counter-attraction of the Eis- teddfod at the Town Hall, there were good congrega" tions morning and evening at both churches. i EASTER DAY.—The church services throughout £ the day were very bright. There were celebrations of the Holy Communion at 8 a.m., 9.30 a.m., and a fully choral celebration at 11. Canon Trevor preached in the Parish Church in English at 11, and the Rev D T Hughes preached in Welsh at 6 p.m., and he was also precentor for the day. The anthem "Christ our Passover" (Simper) was brightly rendered by the large surpliced choir. Masters M Crust, Rd Davies, and Ed Pearce took part in the treble solos. Sullivan's hymn Christ is risen (183 A. and M.) was well rendered. The, evening service (Welsh) was very hearty. The altar had been tastefully decorated by Mr Alfred Gribble head gardener of the Plâs, the ferns, lilies of the valley, and all kinds of choice flowers attracting much attention. The "Agnus Dei Sanctus" and the Gloria in Excelsis," were sweetly rendered during the Communion service. The three-fold and Stainer's seven fold Amens were sung at the close of the services. The Vesper (Evening Hymn) was also sung after the Benediction in Welsh and English. The number of Communicanta throughout the day was large. The collections for the day were devoted by the Rector and Churchwardens, Mr D E R Griffith, L and P Bank, and Dr A 0 Davies, as an Easter offering, to the assistant clergy, viz., Rev D T Hughes, curate. Mr Howell and Mr Robert Ed wards; presided at the organ during the day. Notwithstanding the inclemency of the weather, the congregations were very good throaghout. EISTEDDFOD.—The annual Good Friday eisteddfod of which Mr J G Leek is secretary, was held yester- day, and as in former years proved very successful. BOARD OF GUARDIANS.—WEDNESDAY. Mr David Evans in the chair. MASTER'S REPORT. The Master reported that there were 24 paupers in the House. During the past fortnight 63 vag. rants had been relieved as compared with the same number in the corresponding period of last year. CORRESPONDENCE. Dr Williams wrote to thank the Board for having reappointed him Medical Officer for the Penegoes district. -A letter was read from Mr J M Jones, County Surveyor Merioneth, asking the permission of the Guardians to cut down and sell a tree the property of a pauper lunatic.-The Clerk advised the Board that they had no jurisdiction in the matter. On the motion of Mr Edward Hughes, seconded by Mr R Gillart a vote of thanks was passed to the chairman which Mr Evans acknowledged.-A vote was also passed to the vice-chairman (MrE M Jones) on the motion of Mr J Rowlands seconded by Mr J H Jones.—Mr Ellis Hughes proposed and Mr Jno Jones seconded another vote to the retiring Guard- ians. This was carried and replied to by Messrs J Owen, J Hughes Jones, J Rowlands, W Evans, and Humphrey Jones.—A vote of thanks to the clerk, the deputy clerk and the officials was proposed by Mr John Rowlands and seconded by Mr John Owen and carried and finally Mr John Jones moved and Mr Rufus Owen seconded a vote to the clergy and ministers who had officiated at the house. ESTIMATES. The Clerk presented the estimate for the half- year which he put at zC741 as compared with J6781 during the same period of 1900. APPOINTMENT. The assistant matron asked to be re-appointed at a salary of £ 15. The Board re-appointed her but refused an advance.
