They also inspected Cefan.ae^d and the surrounding district, and were of p that there was an abundant supply of water, and subject to an analysis of the water P™™- favourable, they resolved to recommend the adoption of that source for the supply of the village.- The Clerk then read a letter from Mr J Alan Murray, chemical laboratory, U.C.W., saying that owing to shortness of time he had been unable to search for any other mineral poisons except lead If the Council could wait he would make a more thorough examination for other substances. After giving figures Mr Murray reported All the samples con- tain a slight sediment and exhibit a slight yellow colour-that of No 1 being the darkest-but are fiee from smell and taste. They are very soft in character, of neutral reaction, are free from organic pollution and from lead. The only conspicuous point of difference between them is that the album- moid ammonia in No 1 is much higher than in either of the other .wo. This probably indicates the presence of vegetable matter, but the quantity is :not sufficient to prove detrimental to fish life.- The Medical Officer said he was not surprised that :there was some sediment in the wat-er as that icould be expected from the course of the river, -which ran from a spring on the mountain side. 'The water was also soft, which was very satis- ffactorv He considered the analysis satisfactory. _Mr E P Jones said the Llwyngwril people con- sidered that iVir present supply was as pure as Veaapply they would obtain from this source.— Roberts observed that if the Medical rTffi *-■ xva.8 satisfied they had no time to lose, w A *«TBEKt work they could get the scheme com, j 'bv the summer,—Mr Meyrick Roberts pleted instructions be given to the engineer propose ^lth th0 necessary preparations and i&lan Murray be asked to supply a more that Mr .analysis.—Mr J P Jones seconded the complete «g Jones proposed that the proposition instructed to proceed with the Engineer ,pr0p0gj{;i0r) was not seconded, and work, but f Meyrick Roberts was carried, the motion O ^FFRYN WATER SUPPLY. i fcis scheme it was decided to accede As regar par;eh Council that a committee to the requs o ghould examine sources of of the latte- Medical Officer and Sanitary water supp y >> fnrther stated that the Parish Inspector. whole matter before a Council were plac mg i" « meeting of the ratepayers. meeting EI?GEIKIAU FARM, mi nwk stated that proceedings had been ordered to fee taken against Mr C E J Owen, in re- a Vr, ibove farm, the instructions of the been attended to. Dr Huah Jones, the Medical Officer, reported that .Up 21st December he examined the source of the proposed new water supp.J for Bontddu. The water is to be taken from a small stream which Tuns through wild and mountainous ground There is no available land above the intake and ihere are no buildings or dwellings within the watershea The surroundings of the source were therefore free from a,iv organic pollution beyond that which mus r result from pasturage which was almost nil. K would be Wise however, to make some provision to prevent sheep dipping in the stream above the intake. On January 3rd, he accompanied several 3awr members of the Council to Llwyngwril and exam- ined a very similar course to that,of the above, the Surroundings of which were also free from any obvious pollution. In both cases the water should be submitted to careful analysis in order to ascer- tain whether the chemical composition of the water is such as to make it suitable for domestic purposes. It, should also be borne in mind that upland surface water was frequently heavily charged with peat or earthy matter and in those cases a subsidence reservoir was desirable.-The report was adopted. ILLNESS OF THE SURVEYOR. It was stated that owing to illness the Survryor could not be present at the meeting.
