The Wesleyan Connexion have decided not to carry on the Eisteddfod which they have held for some years. The Eisteddfod was very well attended, and was in every way successful, but the expenses in connection with it were very heavy. Is Towyn willing to do without an Eisteddfod ? One might be organised in which all parties and creeds could take part. The matter is worth con- sideration, and we shall be glad to give all the assistance in our power in ventilating the question. ### From our report it will be seen that the Towyn School has again done remarkably well in the Central Welsh Board Examination, and takes the leading position amongst the whole of the Inter. mediate Schools in North Wales. Welsh seems to have been neglected, but in future more attention will be paid to it. It has been recognised that it would be an advantage to the school if the school-house were converted into a boarding-house. The managers, were of one mind on the point. And at the last meeting Mr Thomas Jones, the headmaster, said he would do his utmost to carry out the scheme. The hoube is large and its sanitary arrangements are perfect. We are given to understand that during the past few weeks several applications have been re- ceived for houses on the Terraoe on the beach as well as for the semi-detached villas. Two of the houses now being built by Mr Morgan have already been let. Those who desire houses on the beach would do well to apply early as there is every prospect of all the houses being let early in the new year. V The address delivered by Capt Kirkby at the smoking concert should be carefully read by those who entertain a prejudice towards the Volunteer movement. He laid the case honestly and straight- forwardly before his audience, and we trust his appeal for more members will be responded to. After a year's drill, Capt Kirkby finds his opinion confirmed that the drill would greatly improve manner and style of Volunteers. Anyone can see for himself that the discipline has had a beneficial effect upon the young men who have joined. The result of an examination recently held was announced, and it appears that several of the men have devoted many hours to study. Is this to be counted an objection to volunteering? Those who have a prejudice against the movement should re- member that these men devote their leisure hours to qualifying themselves to defend their detractors. A reading room is to be opened for three nights a week at the Armoury. This is a step in the right direction, and one that temperence advocates and those who continually complain of the young men walking about the streets doing nothing, have refrained from taking. Captain Kirkby, and those who support him, deserve the best thanks the of townspeople. We hope that the reading room will prove a success and will soon be opened every night of the week. • • The district is healthy, the education given is good and cheap, and there ia every reason why the school should go on growing in numbers and dis- tinction. The Barmouth County Intermediate School has just found two good friends. Mr Evan Thomas, fidgb'afefco'rf, Bifiaiaghatn, who btlt bbbfebi HafodyV
