REFUSED FOR LIFE IN-\ SURANCE.…
REFUSED FOR LIFE IN- SURANCE. T'1 BEFORE USING DOAN'S PILLS: PASSED BY TWO DOCTORS AFTER- WARDS. Mr. TVm. Walker, of Braefoot Place, Douglas, Lanark, N.B., who says:— "When I was stooping over at my work some years ago I was suddenly seized with a violent v pain in my back. It completely crippled mo, and I had to be helped home; I couldn't walk a step. During the next week or two I grew rapidly worse. The water was sandy and difficult to pass, although there was a repeated desire to re- move the bladder, and I had to keep getting up in the night. What with these disturbances and backache and rheumatic pains, I never knew what it was to get a good night's sleep. I took bottle after bottle of the doctor's medi- cine, but it was doing me no good, and for three months I had to be idle, without any income—a serious matter for me, as I am a married man with four children. "I was in a miserable frame of mind, feeling convinced I should never get any better, when I happened to read about Doan's Backache Kidney Pills. I thought I might as well try them, and to my great relief they soon seemed to be doing rae good. My back wasn't so bad, I could stoop about more easily, and the limbs weren't so stiff and rheumatic. The water began to get clearer, and as I kept on with the pills they gradually removed every trace of the kidney complaint and bladder weakness. That was EIGHTEEN MONTHS AGO now, and ever since then there has been no sign of my old trouble, and I have been keeping at work regularly. I get up every morning feeling fit and and well, and think nothing of the eight miles I have to walk each day. I owe my life to Doan's Pills, and cannot praise them too highly. Shortly before my breakdown I went to a doctor to be examined for Life Insurance, but after a careful examination he said I had kidney disease, and he could not pass vie. For years before that I had been troubled occasionally with pains in my back, and many a time after starting out for work I have had to give up and come home. My eyes, too, used to be baggy when I got up in the mornings, and my feet swelled a great deal. Since Doan's Backache Kidney Pills cured me, .1 have again been examined for Life In- surance, by two doctors, and have passed splen- didly both times, although the water was care- fully tested for any trace of kidney disease. I am now insured with a well-known Insurance Office and two Friendly Societies. (Signed) WALKER." No Medical Examiner will pass anyone for In- surance who has the least trace of kidney disease —for every doctor knows how serious this disease is, and how treacherously kidney poisons attack every vital organ of the body. Some of the symptoms that should make you suspect your kidneys are Occasional twinges of of rheumatism, backache, urinary disorders, the appearance of watery circles under the eyes, puffy ankles, cold hands and feet, gravel, and a constant drowsy feeling. If you have any of these symptoms, begin a thorough course of Dean's Backache Kidney Pills, and at the same time do all yon can to raise the tone of the system by strict attention to diet and the laws of health. Doan's Pills stand the highest because of their lasting cures of eyen serious cases of kidney disease. 2/9 a box, 6 boxes 13/9 of all dealers, or direct, post free, from the Foster-McClellan Co., 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W. SOME DELIGHTFUL LANDSCAPES.…
SOME DELIGHTFUL LAND- SCAPES. In the course of the fine art feature of the November Windsor Magazine, which consists of fourteen delightful landscapes and pastorals by distinguished artists, grouped as ThemSg by Mead and Stream," together with a finely printed coloured plate, the writer says:—" We associate Mr Parsons with fairy parks and enchanted gardens, for he has a magic of his own of placing such delights before us in a romance of colour which haunts the recollection. Not that his range is limited, but he has a way of avoiding the drama of storm and stormclouds, and responding to the ideal and sunny aspect of Nature. In looking at 'Buttercups,' the eye, crossing the pellucid, plow-travelling liver, seeks and resfs with delight on the green carpets of cultivated land, unbelievably beautiful to those who like midday's urbanity. No clearer or diviner waters were ever more tranquillized through being held in the grip of cultivation than are these. There is not a ripple of air astir, and the cattle seek shelter from the glare, herding together in the shortened shadows of noon, when all ether 'is coursing in a maze of light.'
A GREAT BLOW.
A GREAT BLOW. Nothing can come as a greater blow to a man thau to be rejected by a Life Insurance Company through some insidious disease, such as consump- tion, advanced disease of the kidneys, or heart trouble. He enters the Insurance Offices feeling as weil as ever he did in his life, perhaps, yet the stringent medical examination reveals the pre- sence cf some dread disease. The sudden blow cloud-; the sunlight of his life, making the out- look ouo of darkness aud gloom, for ic is only too well known that no Insurance Office ever rejects a man unless he is really in a serious condition. Consequently, it is seldom that anyone who has been rejected for Life Insurance ever passes the doctor afterwards. It will come, therefore, an welcome news to every one who has failed to pass a Medical Examination, that Mr Walfker, of Brae- foot Place, Douglas, Lanark, N.B., who some years ago was rejected for Life Insurance through kidney disease, has now passed two Medical Examiners, having cured himself completely by a thorough course of Doan's Backache Kidney Pills Mr Walker now holds a policy in a well- known Life Office, and is also insured in two Friendly Societies. A full report of his case is given in another column, and those who are inte- rested may obtain a Handbook on Diseases of the Kidneys, from the Foster-McClellan Co., 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W., free of all charge.

|HOW MR. WALKER PASSED.
HOW MR. WALKER PASSED. It has been well said that If you want to know whether you are really ill or really well, i make a proposal for Life Insurance." Be sure that if you are well you will certainly be passed, but if you have any trace of serious disease the Medical Examiner will certainly discover it. Many men and women learn for the first time, when they. undergo a medical examination for Insurance, that they have some serious disease. It comes to them as a great shock, and casts a gloom over their life from that day onwards. Hope seems clouded out-for it is so seldom that anyono who fails for Life Insurance passes the doctor afterwards. But happily the experience of Mr Walker, of Braefoot Place, Douglas, Lanark, is just the con- trary. Some years ago he underwent an exami- nation for Life Insurance, but to his dismay he was told by the doctor that he could not be passed, as there were distinct indications of disease of the kidneys. And the doctor's words proved to be only too true; before many weeks had passed, Mr Walker broke down completely whilst at his work and had to be taken home. For three months he was idle and without income—a serious matter for him, a married man with four children. Al- though almost in despair of recovering, Mr Walker began using Doan's Backache Kidney Pills at this time, and eventually lie felt com- pletely cured. He then went aga.in to be examined fur Insurance, and to his great relief was passed by two doctors. Mr Walker is now insured with a well-known Life Office and two Friendly Societies. Mr Walker's triumph marks a new era in the history of medicine, and the greatest interest is everywhere being shown in his case, which is reported at length throughout the Press of the country. Any readers interested are invited to write to the Foster-McClellan Co., 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W., for a Handbook on Kidney Disease, which will be sent entirely free of charge.

Writing on Sime of the social problems of the day, which are incidental to her theme of The Great House and the Village," Lady Henry Somerset says in the November Windsor Maga- ziiie With the increase of luxury there is no doubt that the feeling existing between the rich and the poor has ceased to be genial. The follies and frivolities of life are more on the surface, and and the glitter of its artificiality dazzles and dis- gusts. The presence of this class of landowner rouses what is worst in the nature of their poorer neighbours. I asked a thoughtful working lad in a village what, in his opinion, was the effect of the great house on the village. Servility and envy,' he said 'servility because we are all afraid of what me may lose if we offend, envy at the sight of what appears to be so wonderful and romantic.' I was deeply interested by the answer, because I have always felt that the envy which sometimes touches the heart of the poor is not so much greed for gain, but a desire to open the doors into those regions of romance which are closed to their prosaic and uneventual lives." THE SOUGHT-AND THE -SHUNNED.
THE SOUGHT-AND THE SHUNNED. Who is more eagerly sought after than the man who is thinking of insuring his life ? Agents flock to him from all parts his letter-box is choked with prospectuses and proposal forms. But what a contrast when the proposer is suffering from some insidious disease: Doctor after doctor rejects him, he is shunned of all agents, banned of all Insurance Companies. Probably more men and women are rejected for Life Insurance through kidney disease than any other complaint except consumption. And so difficult is this disease to eradicate that it is rare that a man who has once been refused a policy has ever succeeded in passing the doctor after- wards. The experience of Mr Walker, of Braefoot Place, Douglas, Lanark, will therefore come as welcome news to those who have failed to pass any Medical Examination. Mr Walker was rejected for Life Insurance through kidney disease, but after a thorough course of Doan's Backache Kidney Pills he cured himself com- pletely. He has since passed a stringent exami- nation by two Medical Examiners, and is now insured in a well-known Life Office and two Friendly Societies. A full report of this case is given elsewhere in our colums, and those inte- rested may obtain a book on Diseases of the Kidneys from the Foster-McClellan Co., 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W., free of all charge.

PEMBROKESHIRE BUTTER. VALUE OF COMPETITIONS. Interesting butter-making competitions were held at the Market Hall, Pembroke, recently. The competitions were organised by Mr Grant (county agricultural instructor), and pupils entered from Pembroke, Saundersfoot, and Lampeter Velfrey. The judge (Miss Jenny Reed) declared that she had not judged better butter at any of the leading shows. A gold medal and JE1 were awarded to Miss E. Roch, Main Street, Pembroke; a silver medal and 10s. to Miss May Bowen, Carew Newton, Milton, who were first and second respectively in the champion classes. Afterwards prizes and certificates were distributed by Mr G. Lort Stokes, Tenby, Mr Sketch (chairman of the Education Committee) presiding. Reference was made to the importance of these competitions for Pembrokeshire agriculturists, Mr Stokes remarking that in respect of agricultural improve- ment Pembrokeshire and Monmouthshire were the most advanced counties in Wales.
