NEW LIFE-BOAT FOR THE DEN-BIGHSHIRE…
NEW LIFE-BOAT FOR THE DEN- BIGHSHIRE COAST. The Royal National Life-boat Institution has sent to Llanddulas a new life-boat, to replace the one stationed there by the Institution many years ago. The new life-boat, built by the Thames Ironworks Company, is of the Liverpool type, 36ft. long with 9ft. beam. She rows 12 oars, and is fitted with two water-ballast tanks and two drop-keels. A new transporting carriage has been supplied in order that the boat may be transported and launched as rapidly as possible. The new life-boat is named the Brother and Sitter, as desired by the late Miss Louisa B. Courtenay, who generously bequeathed a sum of money to the Institution for a life-boat to bear this name. The Committee of Management are much in- debted to the local committee and to Mr B. H. Jones, the Honorary Secretary, for their co- operation in the management of the life-boat at Llanddulas. The Royal National Life-boat Insti- tution has now 281 life-boats under its manage- ment, and not a winter passes without some of these boats rendering good service in saving life from shipwreck. Contributions in aid of the In- stitution will be gladly received by all the Bankers in the United Kingdom, by the several local Honorary Secretaries, and by Charles Dibdin, Esq., the Secretary of the Institution, 22, Charing Cross Road, London.
NOT A STRANGER TO TENBY.
NOT A STRANGER TO TENBY. What we give in these columns week after week is not the word of strangers to Tenby, whose evidence would be difficult to investigate. It is the word of Tenby men and women, and the un- mistakably hearty way they speak out is bound to impress us all. Mr Wm. Cuff, of 17, St. Domingo Place, Tenby, is a well-known and much respected resident of this town; he will be recognised as a member of the Salvation Army, having joined just after a corps was established in the town some twenty years ago. "A few years ago," says Mr Cuff, "I used to be troubled very much with bad pains in my back, probably caused by my getting wet. They became so sharp that they quite prevented me from moving about. At my work I do a lot of stooping, and I remember the time when I have been almost set.' There were also symptoms of urinary disorder, and now and again I suffered with my head, sometimes coming over so dizzy that I could not stand for long. My appetite fell away, and I was easily tired. I tried plasters for my back, but I don't be- lieve they did any good at all. A neighbour who had derived benefit from Doan's backache kidney pills advised me to try this medicine. I sent for some, and was glad to find the pills soon gave me ease my back became less painful, and the urinary complaint was cor- rected. I could eat and sleep better, and my health generally was improved. I can certainly say that Doan's backache kidney pills cured me, and I think it only right that I should let others know of the benefit I have received." Over 3 years after his cure, Mr Cuff said :—" I am as well as can be, and I never let a chance go by of speaking for Doan's backache kidney pills." Doan's backache kidney pills are two shillings and ninepence per box, or six boxes for thirteen shillings and ninepence. Of all chemists and stores, or post free, direct from the Foster-McClellan Co., 8, Wells Street, Oxford Street, London, W. Be sure you get the same kind of pills as Mr Cuff had.
THE "STRAND MAGAZINE" FOR…
THE "STRAND MAGAZINE" FOR OCTOBER. There are two articles of outstanding interest in The Strand Magazine this month which call for more than passing mention. The first of these is My Reminiscences," by Enrico Caruso, in which the great singer tells of many delightful and engrossing incidents in his astounding career, and chats in an interesting fashion of his boyish ambitions, of his home life, his first great success, and, for the benefit of all would-be opera stars, gives his ideas, founded upon long experience, of a "singing" diet. The other article that we particularly recommend our readers to read for themselves is that by Percy Burton on Some Actor-Managers I Have Known." Among the many interesting personalities with whom he has come in contact, and of whom he has many good stories to tell, are Wilson Barrett, Henry Irving, Forbes-Robertson, and Sir John Hare.

DR. BARNARDO'S HOMES.
DR. BARNARDO'S HOMES. The Autumn issue of Night and Day, the quarterly official organ of Dr. Barnardo's Homes, is full of interesting matter, not only for the many supporters of the Institutions, but for all who keep an eye on the progress of one of the most remarkable philanthropic agencies of our day. The Homes, it appears, have 8500 boys and girls under their daily charge, and they have rescued in the course of their 43 years of existence 67,634 children all of these from destitution and very many of them from conditions which are disgrace- ful to modern civilisation. Their emigrants number 21,638 they are going forth to Canada at the average rate of about 1000 a year, and successes in the Dominion awaits at least 98 per cent. of them. The value of the Institutions as a social factor is not easily over-estimated. Small wonder that the magistrates of the Thames Police Court sent a special donation in aid of their valuable work," or that other courts recognise their splendid labours in clearing the streets of possible wastrels and hooligans It is not sur- prising, moreover, that the support of such a work demands large and liberal additions to the exchequer. A copy of this issue will be sent gratis and post free to any applicant who writes to the Honorary Secretary of the Homes at the well- known address, 18 to 26, Stepney Causeway, London, E.
