NEW MAGISTRATES FOR PEMBROKESHIRE. The Right Hon. Lord Kensington has placed the names of the following gentlemen in the commission of the peace for the county of Pembroke, viz. Dr. Bennett, Haverfordwest; Mr G. P. Brewer, Narberth Mr J. Vaughan, Colby, Cresborough Mr W. Rees Morgan Davies, barrister-at-law Mr Mr William Evans, Bletherstone; Captain David Harries, Zoar Hill, Dinas Mr Gilbert D. Harries, Llanunwas, Solva Dr. Havard, Newport, Pem. Mr Richard Griffith Lewis, Rear-Admiral Mayne, C.B., M.P., Mr W. P. Ormond, Haverfordwest; Mr Louis Samson, Scotch well, near Haverfordwest; Mr Isaac Smedley, Pembroke-Dock Mr J. E. Thomas, Trehale Mr D. Propert Williams, Pen- berry, St. David's; and Dr. Williams, Drim, near Fishguard. The adjourned Quarter Sessions for the County of Pembroke will be held in the Shire Hall, Haver- fordwest, on Saturday, the 24th inst., when any of the newly-appointed magistrates may qualify.

FISH REPORT. Owing to the prevailing s.s.w. winds, and heavy ground swell, small catches of fish have been landed this week, the trawling boats not being able to leave the harbour for several days. One Brixham boat landed a small catch of soles, turbot, brill, hake, gurnets, &c., from the Irish channel. The seine fishing industry have also suffered from the unsettled state of the weather, boats not able to put out. The mackerel fishing boats are doing fairly well, landing fair catches daily. All the boats are now in harbour, blowing strong from the s.s.w., with showers.-August 21, 1889.

MONKTON PRIORY CHURCH. On Tuesday week the Lord Bishop of St. David's consecrated the chancel of the above church. The chancel has been in a ruined state for about 360 years, and the part now restored completes the fourth section of the work of restoration, all of which has been done during the incumbency of the Rev David Bowen, the present vicar of the parish. The portion now under notice has been most satis- factorily carried out by Mr Kenneth McAlpin, builder, &c., Pembroke-Dock. The consecration service commenced at 11.30, and was followed by a short morning service and celebration of the Holy Communion, the sermon being preached by the Rev J. W. Hardman, LL.D. (public preacher, Diocese of Bath and Wells). At two o'clock a public luncheon, at which his lordship presided, took place in the schoolroom. A sale of useful and ornamental articles was afterwards held in the Priory orchard, and addresses were delivered by the Bishop and Mr H. G. Allen, Q.C., Paskeston. There jjwere stalls of fancy articles, refreshments, flowers, &c., all of which appeared to be well patronised. The band of the 1st V.B. Welsh Regiment enlivened the proceedings by contributing a capital selection of music.

Lord Aberdare is now, if anything, slightly better. His temperature, formerly at 102, has gone down to a nominal condition.

The squadron to which I alluded last week as then lying in Milford Haven appears to have done excellent work in the protection of the coast, if an opinion may be formed from the graphic reports that have since appeared in the London papers. The fleet left Dale Roads, just inside St. Ann's Head, on Thurday morning, where they had been lying since the receipt of the Admiralty announce- ment of the day for commencing hostilities. The nature of the secret orders, when the fleet got underweigh, was to some extent a "secret," but it was known that the Admiral on either side had been given a free hand as to his method of at- tacking or defending British interests, and Sir George Tryon could be trusted to show both enterprise and originality in his plans. » The fleet headed for the Irish coast, Waterford being the point of attack. The weather was rough, and the hands had a pretty lively time of it. The fast cruiser Warspite was despatched early in the day, and it was found when the last portion of the fleet reached the Irish coast that the city of Water- ford and other places had been taken. On Satur- day morning the fleet took a southerly direction, and about seven in the morning a suspicious look- ing craft was espied on the horison. The Admiral gave instructions to chtise it. About noon the pursuers came up with the enemy's ships, the Hero, Camperdown, and Immortalite. After a desperate fight the enemy surrendered, and his vessels were taken to Falmouth. These ships were no doubt on the way to the English Channel, and intended doing damage to towns on the coast, and perhaps to enter the Thames under cover of the darkness. It.. It wa.s rumoured on Sunday that one of the enemy's cruisers had been seen in the Bristol Channel making for Cardiff and was driven back by the Artillery Volunteers at Lavernock. It has since turned out that the suspicious" craft was none other than our old friend the Foxhound, and from her guns there was not much to be appre- hended. However, the scare had the effect of turning out the volunteers, and sharpening up the artillerymen on the Holmes and at Lavernock, and this did them no harm. A large portion of the fleet re-entered Milford Havan on Monday, and are now lying in Dale Roads. I bear that more than twenty ships were there on Wednesday, and as the Railway Company announced daily excursions to Pembroke-Dock, for purpose of giving visitors an opportunity of viewing them, a large number of persons have availed themselves of the facilities offered. Un- fortunately the weather in the Haven has been rather boisterous during the last day or two, but the little steamboats that ply from Hobb's Point are quite seaworthy, and to those who can stand the roll of one of these vessels, the trip would be highly enjoyable. A salmon weighing 301bs. was caught in the Towy, near Carmarthen, this morning.
