BRECON. COUNTY PETTY SESSIONS. These Sessions were held on Saturday last, be- fore John Lloyd and Mordecai Jones, Esqrs. ASSAULT.-John Jones, farmer, Cwmpistill, near Myrthyr Cynog, was charged by George Monkley for assaultiug him at Pontfaen. Mr. T. B. Bishop appeared for the complainant, and Mr. S. B. Evans for the defendant. George Monkley deposed—I am servant at Van- fawr, Merthyr-cynog; Jones the defendant lives at the adjoining farm I was in Brecon on Thurs- day last, and called at Pontfaen on coming back to have a horse shod; Jones and myself and another went to the smith shop, where we two tossed for some beer I won the first toss, and one of the others had to pay we drank that quart, then Jones and I tossed; Jones won, and I paid for that quart defendant won a quart with another afterwards we then joked the defendant about paying for another quart, as he had not paid for one of those quarts already brought in; he sent Owens the smith's son for it; the defendant then went out and into the house, and told Owens not to bring it; I took hold of Jones's arm, and I asked him in a friendly manner to pay for a quart he retreated back and then knocked me in my face until I fell to the ground as soon as I got up Jones took hold in my hair and abused me very badly, knocked my eye very severely Mr. Owens the Smith tried to separate us. Cross examined I don't remem- ber touching Jones I don't ren.ember whether it was before or after coming out of the smith shop that I caught hold in his sleeve, but it was in a friendly manner I did not prevent his going out of the smith shop I picked up a stone after he struck me the first blow, but did not throw it at him I am blind with one eye, and Jones struck me upon that eye until it bled very much. David Jones deposed-I was at Pontfaen on Thursday when the dispute took place we were shoeing the horses, and we tossed for a quart of beer Owen's son lost and refused to pay Monk- ley asked Mr. Jones to stand a quart; defendant said I will stand a quart come on" defendant and Monkley went into the house and came out again; Monkley asked defendant to stand a quart; Jones stood back and struck him till he fell to the ground they were both sober the marks now on complainant were made by Jones. Cross-examined: I cant say how many times Monkley asked Jones to stand a quart; Monkley has several marks now on his face that were not there before this quarrel. Mary Jones deposed-I saw Jones striking the complainant Jones struck first; I did not see anything about the shirt sleeve. John Owen deposed-I was at Pontfaen on Thursday Monkley and Jones came to me about shoeing the horse Monkley asked defendant to pay for a quart; Monkley stopped him to go out of the smith shop unless he would pay for a quart; Monkley ran up the road after Jones when he got out he took hold of his sleeve and tore it Jones tripped Monkley and pushed him down they afterwards went in hold of each other Jones in order to get out of the shop, told me to go for a quart of beer, but as soon as he got out he coun- termanded the order. William Jones deposed—I was in the smith shop; George Monkley asked Jones to pay for a quart, and said "you shall not go out of the shop until you do so Jones then told John Owens to go for a quart; Jones afterwards went out and told him not to bring the quart; the first thing I saw after- wards was to see Monkley pick a stone.—Fined XI 16s. 6d. including costs.- Communicated.

BOROUGH PETTY SESSIONS. The Sessions were held on Monday last, at the Guild Hall, before John Prothero, Esq., Mayor, George Cansick, Joseph Joseph, and James Wil- liams, Esqrs. DRUNKENNESS, &c.-David Jones, shoemaker, Crickhowell, was brought up in custody, charged with being drunk and exposing his person, on Mon- day last. The offence was admitted.—Fined 2s. 6d. or 14 days. CAUTION TO WORKMEN.—David Bevan, mason, was summoned by Mr. John Williams, of the firm of Messrs. Williams, builders, Llanfaes, Brecon, charged with leaving his work without giving no- tice, Mr. T. B. Bishop appeared for the defendant, and informed their worships that he had only just been instructed, and asked for an adjournment for a week, after some conversation the application was granted. A NUISANCE.—William Prosser, miller, was summoned, charged with allowing his pigs to be at large in the streets of the town. Prosser did not answer to his name. The case was fully proved, and the defendant was fined 2s. and costs.

MERTHYR. SUDDEN DEATH OF A MAN WHILST AT PRAYER. —An awful case of sudden death occurred on Thursday night at Pennel Chapel, Twynyrodyn. A man named Rees Morgan had engaged in prayer, and had just uttered the Amen," when he fell down prostrate upon the floor, and before assistance could be procured died. The awful event created quite a painful sensation in the neighbourhood.— Bristol Daily Post.

THE NEW MINISTRY. The new Ministry may now be considered as constituted, and the Daily News says that it would be uncandid to deny that it represents a very fair amount of parliamentary and administrative ability.
