TO THE INDEPENDENT ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF BRECON AND TOWN OF LLYWEL.' ri ENTLEMEN,—I have again, with increased assiduity and care, renewed my canvass, where, on previous occasions, I was not so fortunate as to receive either definitive or decisive replies. I am now, however, reluctantly convinced, that Men, not measures," in too many instances, par- aiyze your political action, for while I have evinced a readiness to defend those principles, which are your own, I have met with neutrality in some, and positive opposition in others, where consistency should, on your own terms, have indisputably en- Sured to me both influence and support instead. The contest, which (but for the reasons assigned) .1 ) Would unquestionably have ended in my favour, has thus become too close a struggle, to justify 119 -1 further opposition on my part, to the return of my noble opponent as your Representative in Parlia- ment, and I therefore, without hesitation,, though not with indifference, withdraw myself as a Candi- date for your suffrages. 11 I have the more readily likewise come to this conclusion, from a. deep-seated feeling, that no one should hastily, still less uselessly, imperil that social peace and harmony, as well as commercial tranquility, which, with abundant reason, it is always so desirable to maintain secure and inviolate. With this solicitude, blame me not then, for the conclusion at which I have arrived, ready, nay anxious as I was, for the high honor of becoming your Representative, since I have done my duty even though it be apparent, that others have disre- garded their own. Nevertheless, I cannot conclude without record- Ing an assurance of my readiness, at all times, to :S!T'port, to the utmost of my power, any measure, whether it tend to the advancement of your public nuerest, or to the furtherance of your private ad nwtage. Neither should my frankness render less sccept- able to you, this sincere record of my thanks, for the very courteous and kind manner with which I have been received by all, and especially is my most sincere gratitude due to my independent and warm-hearted supporters. I remain, Gentlemen, With much sincerity and respect, Your obliged and faithful servant, Your obliged and faithful servant, nOvVEL GWYN. Castle of Brecon Hotel, 27th January, 13G6. TO THE ELECTORS OF THE BOROUGH OF BRECKNOCK AND THE TOWN OF LLYWEL. GENTLEMEN, It is now Three Months since I last addressed Yoti, and the time is drawing near when you. will he called upon to elect your Representative in Parliament. G _ENTLEMEN;- In consequence of the retire- ment of two out of the three Candidates who. sought your suffrages for the forthcoming Election, l to represent you in the Commons House of ament, I have issued this, my Second address. The various political questions, pro and con, which have been brought before your notice, have only, in my opinion, been to ascertain whether the Borough is really liberal or conservative. The fact that the most liberal and greatest conservative Candidates have retired, is a decided proof that it, is neither the one or the other. Feeling that there are a number of Electors and Non-electors who are not represented in their social and political interests, I am desirous to go to the poll. In, order to enable me to do so with pure, conscien-, tious, and liberal motives, I beg to offer you, ont^ and all," my best services in that Department oiL Trade in which I am conversant, and any measure you wish to bring before my notice, shall have lll';1 earnest and devotcd attention. r- The Noble Earl is in favor of the extension of. the Franchise, Howel Gwyn, Esq., in favor of the, conscientious abolition of Church Rates, and Dry Price, in favor of the total abolition, and the great- est extension of the Franchise.
