MURDER AND ATTEMPTED SUICIDE AT ISLE. WORTIT On Wednesday evening, about eight o'clock, as some men were at work on the banks of the stream at Isle- worth, they heard screams as from a female. On pro- ceeding to the spot they found a man standing up with his throat cut in a ghastly manner. A short distance from the spot, in a garden path, they dis. covered the dead body of a woman with her head nearly cut off. The man's name is Samuel Dawson, am and the murdered woman was his wife. No motive has yet been discovered for the dreadful tragedy. AIT the information which can at present be entertained with regard to the affair is that Dawson and his wife lived in a cottage on the outskirts of Isle worth, and the family were supported principally by Mrs. Daw- son, who was a laundress. They were middle-aged persons, and had two or three children. They have, it is stated, a good character in the neighbourhood. On Wednesday night, between eight and nine o'clock, the police received information that Mrs. Dawson had been murdered in her cottage. They prooeeded to the place and found her in the garden dead, and with her head nearly cut off. They followed a track to the river, and there they found the woman's husband standing up in the water with his throat cut. They arrested him, and sent for two medical men, who with great difficulty sewed up the wound in his throat. He was then carried to the workhouse, where he remains without hope of recovery.
