There was a moderately good attendance on 'Change to-day, and the demand for steam coal was again brisk, current quotations ruling very firm. The following include the latest operations:— Genoa, 10$3J, 400 delivery (Anerley); Sebasto- pol, 9", clesn terms of charter (Derwentdale) 1, Leghorn, 10s bd, option Genoa, 10s 3d, 400 delivery (Horden); Colombo, 9s 6d (Adirondack): Aden, 191 6<3 (Resolution) Gibraltar, 8 (Trout- beck) Venice, lis, coal, lis 6d, fuel (Tiber), the laet named Swansea loading. --=-=_ THE WEATHER AND THE CROPS. [FROM MONDAY'S MARK-LANK EXPHESS."] The week's trade in English wheat cnust be lecorded as in buyers' favour, but no impjrkant price changes have been effected. A few possessors of samples in a dry state, or weighing over 611bs to the bushel, have parted with them at any decline, however small. The inquiry for flour in London and big cities has been satisfactory, considering the weather and th« restricted character of retail jfrade in the country. However, sellers have had much apathy to complain of and an occasional fall of 6d per sack is quoted. Foreign wheat off stands in London is nominally unaltered. Maize and grinding foreign barleys óJ per quarter cheaper.
-----------.."WALKING" THE…
"WALKING" THE WATER. Capt. C. Terry walked on the water on Saturday afternoon from the White Hart, Barnes, to the Ship at Mortlake. The journey was performed in a pair of boat-shaped boots made of thin brass. They are 3ft. long, and sink in the water just like the keel of a vessel. The toes are so shaped that they easily cut through the water, and at the heels are cwo tin fane, which open and close with the movement of the feet. The boots rest on an iron frame the which is attached a alei5rinR apparatus, and what Terry describes as two balancing poles. Inspection shows that to each end of these is attached a float. The steering ap- paratus is controlled by two upright handles, which help to steady the performer. Progress is gained by putting each foot forward, and there is an additional elasticity given to the step by a piece of indiarubber, which connects the heels of the boots and the end of the frame to which they are attached. The motion can scarcely be described as walking.
