As will be been from an ad verti«eicenc, in another column, the Taltal (Chile) Nitrate Company (Limited) has been formed for the purpose of acquiring and working certain extensive and v>uuable nitrate grounds in the district of Taltal, iu Chili. The properties are in one block, and ecmpris,) an area of nearly 1,000 English acre?. The nitrate grounds acquire;! by the company give every indication that for richne,s, capacity, and special iacilities for working, they will rank amongst the most im- portant and valuable in South America, A perusai of the prospectus will show that in many respects the company will be very favourably circiiHis'^need. Included in the directorate are Sir W. K. Arhuthnot, Bart., and Mr Joseph H. Thomas, the British vice-consul at Santiago. A company has been formed to take over the well-know 1 brewery business of Messrs J. Kunneley and Company, which has beeu carried on for upwards of iittv years at Burton-on-Trent. The total tfapital is £ 130,000. It will be seen that the certitifd net profits in the past have been of a very gratifying character. Furthermore, the business of the brewery is steadily increasing; and the present issue of capital affords an excellent opportunity to investors. Mr Lewis H. CARDIFF EXCHANGE. BUTE DOCKS, FRInAT. There was an average attendance on 'Change to-day, and in the steam coal trade a fair amount of business was effected. Prices for all descrip- tions were quoced very firm, doubtless due to the fact that most of the larger colliery owners are well supplied with orders, and that the outlook for the coming week promises to be a busy one. Houshold coals were in brisk demand at Thurs- day'" quotations, and a similar remark applies to bituminous small coal, Welsh cokes, and pitwood. In our local freight market to-day chartering for steam was moderately active, and an average amount of business has been done all round for forward tonnage. Rates for the Italian and Mediterranean ports continue dull. Eastern and West Indian freights are firm. Baltic business quiet. Bay ports and coasting rates remain unchanged. f The following include the latest operations:— Ancona, 9- 9 (Lady St Germains); Gibraltar, as 3 ( (Ancia) Malta, 7, 6i (option); Alexin dria, 8, 6(i (Southgate); Danube, 9 (Muriei) St. Michaels, 9s 61 (Cadoxton) Venice, 9s 6d (option) Ancon*, 9s 4jd (Alludra) Gibraltar, as 3d (G E Wood); V (Inchgarvie); a Bilbao, 5s 61 (Ancient Briton); Valencia, 10s 9d, fuel (Martos); Malta, 7 (Arno) Stettin, 6s, slag (Kate Forster); Bilbao, 5s 6d (Mardy); Danube, 9> (Merridac). Rates for the River Piate close firm, and a similar remark applies to West Indian and West Coast freights. Eastern rates are steady. Baltic and coasting quiet. Mediterranean quotations remain unchanged. Ore.—Rates from Bilbao continue firm, with good demand for prompt tonnage to load for the Bristol Channel. There is also an improved demand from Benisaf, Carthagena, and Huelva for eariy shipment to the continent, and East and West Coast, United Kingdom.

SCOTCH IUON TRADE.
SCOTCH IUON TRADE. GLASGOW, Friday.— Ihe Scotch iron market has fiuctu "ted to a considerable extent this week. It opened very strong, w th a rnatenal advance in price and a large speculative business, but the report that the output of oroinarv Scotch pi5 was being increased bv about 1,300 tons a week, and that a considerable proportion of the in. crease must go into store, produced a very depressing effect. The price of warrants sn artlv rece ed. Later in the week the tone of the market improved owng to the favourable Board of Trade re- turns. At the close Scotch warrants were 3 d per ton dearer than at the end of last week. Thera haT been c"mparativeiy little doing in our market this week in Cleveland and Cumberland warrants. An additional furnace has been put n blast at Calder Ironworks, and there are now 87 in operation, compared with 84 twelve months ago. There is a small increase in the stocks in the Glasgow Iron Stores, and the increase is expected to continue for some time at the rate ot at least 200 tons a day. The pis" iron shipments are considerably above the average in amount. Steel makers are very busy, and they are asking higher prices for the orders that are in the market. Manu- factured iron a.nd coal are also active.

THE STAFFORDSHIRE IRON TRADE.
THE STAFFORDSHIRE IRON TRADE. AN IMPORTANT COMBINATION. An important combination for advancing prices was formed yesterday amongst the strip iron makers in S,)uth Staffordshire. These firms have been invited by the NationaY Tube Makers' Association, which controls the prices of tubes, to form a syndicate to advance the price. of iron used for tube making, and to adopt a uniform selling basis. The suggestion has been adopted, and "sixteen of twenty firms have signed an agreement advancing prines 7 6d per ton, namely, to 5 guineas. It is anticipated that the other firms will shortly sign.
