---------CARDIFF EXCHANGE.'
CARDIFF EXCHANGE. BUTE DOCKS, THURSDAY EVKNT.VC. There was a fair attendance of members on 'Change to-day, but in the ffteam coal trade business ruled slow. Prices, however, notwith- standing, remained firm for all descriptions. For hou coal there was a fairly brisk demand. Small steam was in moderate request, and the | same remark applies to patent fuel and' pitvrood. Considerable activity has prevailed to-day in our Ilocai freight market, and, with a good supply of tonnage on offer, an increased amount of business, more particularly for the higher Mediterranean ports, has been effected. Hates for this direction continue very firm, and the same remark applies to West Indian and Gibraltar freights. Eastern raies are steady. Baltic and coasting quiet. States outward freights remain unchanged. The followine include the latest operations:- Port Said, 10< 9d (Brisco6), and ag^in at lis for (Beilcaim) Constantinople, 9, 91, 250 delivery, f.f.c .treebrokerand merchan 'sstevedore(Blanch- land); Salerno, lis. 300 delivery (Arthur); St 4" 91 (Fram) Tarragona, 12.; 3d, fuel. 200 delivery, combination terms (B lilochburn); St Nazaire, 5ifcs (Rhiwderiii) Barcelona, 12< 91 (Vittoria); Constantinoplo, 9 7^1 (General iiobprts) Sulina, 10s (Sailor Ptince); Naples, 10< 9 I, f.f.c., 300 delivery (Sam Welter): Palermo, 10s 9d, 300 delivery (Olga) Port Said, 10- 91 (Dragonfly), and again at same rate for (City of Truto), and again at same rate for Oporto, 7s l'i (Regalia") G^tioa. 10^ 1011 (Block Wivtch); and again at 10-7jd, 400 delivery (Lord Warwick); Leghorn, 11-. 350 delivery (Gwalia or Elv Rise) Venice, 10s 7^ clean terms of charter (Envoy). S. market continues firm, with a good demand for this class of tonnage for al! direc- tions. Rates tor the River Plato and Brazils continue to strengthen, and a similar remark applies to West Indian, Cape, and South Ameri- -3 are. can freights. Eastern rates are steady. Coasting and Baltic quiet. Mediterranean quotations remain unchanged. Ore.—R ites iroin Bilbao continue dull, and the same rem irk applies to freights offering from Carthag^ma :1.nJ1 Huoiva. E rom Elba, Marbulla, and ICrgisteria «h- tonnrrge demand continues very limited and rates weak. Pomaron, Carlo- forte, and other Mediterranean quotations remain unchanged. London advices report the Black Sea market dull, without any material alteration in rates for prompt shipment. States grain and cotton freights are unimproved, Rïc. pore qyoUtioae are slightly firmer. Bombay, Kurrachee, Cal- cutta, and Madras freights remain unchanged. Alexandria advices state —Freight market con- tinues dull, and rates unaltered, there still being very great reluctance shown by merchants to ship owing to bad markets at home, coupled with much smaller supplies from up country, which tend to I increase the depression that has been prevailing for a long while, and there is no prospect of any aupreciablo change for some time to coma. Present quotations ar :—Hull or London, 78 per I ton for eerl. and Is 31 per quarter for grain. As to United Kingdom for orders there is no demand whatever, and 8s 6d to S" 9,1 for handy-sized boats, subject to the usual reduction of Is per ton if ordered direct on signing bills of lading, is now the very utmost obtainable.

COURSING. WATERLOO MEETING. The thaw which commenced on Wednesday afternoon unfortunately gave place to another severe frost during the night, and the ground at Altcar yesterday was, if anything, in a worse state than ever.
