--.---MONEY MARKET.
MONEY MARKET. LONDON, Friday, The Money Market is a shade stronger than yesterday, but it is not over firm. Capital is "not too plentiful. Call money can be had at 5 to 3 par cent., and loans over Tuesday at 3k to 3i per cent. In disoouat not much was doing. Three months' bills were taken at about 4 per. cent. Paris Cheque Exchange is 25.25; Berlin sbort, 29,39. On the titock Exchange scaieiy anything has bsen done to-day beyond a marked disposition to j realise on the part of weak operators for a rise, who are apparently desirous to reduce their ac- counts in view of thesettlemeat, which commences, on Tuesday next. Nothing special has occurred to influence the markets, which are feeling the ab- sence of a new sot; of buyers. The 'defeat of the French Ministry weakened Foreign Bonds a little. Consols closed at 97 to 97k for delivery, and S7i to 97j for nccouot per Cent. (Childers'), 39jJ to 100a 2^ per Cent., 95 to 95^; Local Loans Stock, lOlj to 1024. In Foreign Bonus very little business was done, and no great change occurred in price. Inter- nationals were more or less weak. Speculators bave been taking their profit", and a fractional weakness has resulted. Spanish were specially riull. Brazilian Scrip \va-i flat at 4 discount. The prospectus appears 1U our columns of the Danube Collieries and Minerals Company, Ltd. This company, with a capital of £150,000, in 150,000 shares of Li each, has acquired the valu- able Ujbanva collieries, which are situated at .Fiberthal, in the kingdom cf Hungary, and near to the river Danube, with which they are con- nected by a private railway. The property com- prises over 10,000 acres of land, and the mining estate is practically freehold. A glance at the prospectus will sufficiently indicate the character of tho property, which has dividend-earning proa- f»30ts of a very bright character. MONMOUTH, Friday,- I'))t) annual winter fair was held to-day in exceptionally fine weather. This is the largest stock fair of the year, and there was a good attendance of buyers and tellers, sheep and pigs were in short supply. Cattle and horses were numerous. The class of animals chiefly on offer were three-year-old bullock- and some of these were } of excellent quality. There was a large number of horses on offer, and good cart and roadsters were in brisk demand, and met a quick clearance. Trade in colts and smaller animals was slow. The demand was fair, but farmers are slow to sell, kep being plentiful this se iscn. Accurate quotations in horses are difficult, owing to the fact that most of the trade in tho-e animals was done in the streets and bye- lanes of the town, notwithstanding the efforts of the police to get into the market. The fair, on the whole, was a brisk one, and a lot of trade was done. The following are the quotations Three-year-old bullocks, £ 18 to £ 25 each; tw^-year-old cattle, £ 11 to £ 14; yearling ditto, £ 6 to £ 10 each; cows and calves, ;1;15 to E18 barreners, B9 to S13 prime quality beef, 6d to 6d per lb second quality, 5d to 6d per lb mutton, 7d to 7id per lb ew ditto, 6d to 64 p?r lb lamb, 8d to 8^1 per lb pork, 9s 6d to 10s per score store sheep. The pit- wood market was firm, while the sales pf pitwood and Welsh cokes were quite up to the average. In our local freight market to-day chartering I for ataam was moderately active, and about an average business has been effected for forward tonnage.
