ATTACK ON A WOMAN. A man who was stopped by a constable while running down Holland-walk—a lonely lane leading from Kensington to Notting-hilf- gate-at 4 a.m. on April 4 was brought before the West London magistrate on Mon- day charged with doing grievous bodily harm to a woman named Smith, living in Notting Dale. The accused, John Meinrad Sehilcher, is Bavarian baker, of Springvale-terrace, West Kensington, and when he was arrested he denied that he struck the woman, saying that he went to her assistance. Smith said that she reached Holland-walk about one o'clock in the morning, when the prisoner spoke to her. He walked with her to a seat, and then struck her and knocked her down. She got up, but he again knocked her to the ground, and stood on her chest. He put his handkerchief into her mouth, struck her several times, and kicked her three times in the ribs. The man was a stranger to her. The accused was remanded in custody.
