EIDDIL IFOR." As a pendant to your interesting note regarding the presentation by Mrs. Gwyn of her late father's Cymreigyddion medals to the Cardiff Free Library, it may not be out of place to state that, though the name of Eiddil If or but seldom meets the eyes of the present generation of Welsh readers, the worthy old medallist was in his time a toler- ably prolific writer. To Seren Gomer of about the forties he contributed an inter- esting series of articles on Helwriaeth yr Hen Gymry," and again at about the close of the sixties he published in Y Bedyddiwr another important series on Hanes Beirdd a Llenorion Gwent a Morganwg." Thomas Watkins, as I remember him over 40 years ago, was a hale and portly old gentleman, of a setting which was typically Cymroaidd," and to whom an abundant beard and an ample moustache tended rather to impart an appearance of austerity than to afford a true index to the kindly nature and rich vein of humour which reposed beneath so rugged an exterior. He was, moreover, a man of un questioned probity, and in the days when Cymreigyddion y Fenni were in the heyday of their prosperity that excellent woman, Lady Llanover (Gwenynen Gwent)— ever ready to extend her patronage to Welsh students—quickly perceived his worth, and gracefully allowed to him the use of her library with its rich store of Welsh literature. A characteristic anecdote of Eiddil Ifor at Llanover House is, perhaps, worth relating. Seated at table in the hall one day, the butler having gone through grace before meat perfunctorily rather than intelligibly, a titter of merriment was occasioned when Eiddil Ifor slily asked him that he would kindly ail-adrodd dy bader." It is highly satisfactory to notice that quite recently a movement to reconstitute the Society of Cymreigyddion y Fenni has been successfully set on foot.-Ap NEFYDD.

The language used by some of the suffra- gists at the Albert Hall to the gentlemen who courteously escorted them out was most unladylike. It savoured of an East End up-bringing and the marvel is that many of the stewards behaved so commendably on the occasion. An interesting snapshot of the promtitude and gentleness with which the suffragists were carried out of the Albert Hall is in- cluded in this issue. It depicts Mr. Pennant Jones in the act of handling a robust young lady, who evidently was not displeased at the attention she obtained from the audience. It is interesting to note that Lord Mostyn wore a small silver harp when he presided over one of the meetings of the National Eisteddfod. This harp was presented to one of his ancestors at the Caerwys Eistedd- fod in the year 1568. Lord Mostyn is a patriotic Welsh peer, who is proud of his Cymric connections and ancestry. The people of Carmarthen are delighted that the Welsh National Eisteddfod for the year 1911 is to be held at their ancient borough. If enthusiasm counts for anything, then the 1911 gathering is certain to prove a big success. A draft of the new regulations for secondary schools in Wales and Monmouth- shire, which will come into operation on August 1st, has just been published. It contains the following interesting clause :— In districts where Welsh is spoken, the language, or one of the languages, other than English, should be Welsh. Any of the subjects of the curriculum may (where the local circumstances make it desirable) be taught, partly or wholly, in Welsh." The Board expresses its qualification that Welsh and Welsh literature are gradually taking their right place in the curriculum of Welsh secondary schools. Sir S. T. Evans claims that Wales is the parent of the Sunday School. There is a real foundation for this claim no doubt. There are many people who share the opinion of the Solicitor General. Master Clifford Morgan, the clever boy artist," whose oil painting at the National Eisteddfod was so much admired, had a great reception when he arrived at his home in Ebbw Vale. It is to be hoped that the national fund which is being promoted on his behalf, will be well supported. There is no doubt that he is a born artist, and if he is properly encouraged, he will become one of the greatest artists of the day, and a credit to the Principality.
