REVIVAL OF THE NATIONAL INSTRUMENT…
REVIVAL OF THE NATIONAL INSTRUMENT OF WALES. GREAT SUCCESS OF THE INNOVA- TION AT ABERGAVENNY. One of the chief-if not the most impor- tant features in connection with the Cymreigyddion y Fenni's Inaugural Congress last week, was the restoration of that ancient triple harp-the national instrument of Wales, the executants being the Llanover Harpers, dressed in Welsh costume, under the direction of Madame Gruffydd- Richards Pencerddes y De" (Premier Harpist of Wales). Many have been the appeals made from time to time from the platform of the National Eisteddfod for its restoration, the last at Llangollen. In proposing a vote of thanks to the Harpists, on behalf of the Cymreigyddion, the Rev. Ceitho Davies remarked that, notwithstanding the many appeals made from the National Eisteddfod platform for the revival of the Welsh Triple Harp, nothing had really been accomplished in that direction until the matter was taken in hand by the Cymreigyddion. That was not the first occasion for Llanover House, associated with the name of the illustrious Gwenynen Gwent" and the Hon. Mrs. Herbert, their President, had lead the way in maintaining the traditions and aspirations of the Welsh people in all that is noble in Telyn a Ohân. The Cymreigyddion were anxious that the committee of the National Eisteddfod in London this year would see their way clear to get a band of harpists to the national gathering. (Applause.)

THE Cambrian National Glee Singers will undertake a three months' tour in the United States next autumn. They are a splendid party, and are principally composed of National and semi-national Eisteddfod prize winners. Mr. John Stephens, the secretary, is, himself, a well-known and popular tenor. THE Gaelic language, like the Welsh, is full of beauty. Here, for example, is a translation of an ancient Irish hymn :— I offer thee Every flower that ever grew, Every bird that ever flew, Every wind that ever blew, Good God Every thunder rolling, Every Church-bell tolling, v Every leaf and sod, Laudamus Te. HOLYWELL WORKHOUSE inmates had hot cross buns on Good Friday, the local Board of Guardians having decided that they should have them. They were, probably, the only workhouse inmates in the country to receive this time honoured delicacy. MRS. LLOYD GEORGE continues to increase in popular favour as a public speaker and chairwoman. She is announced to preside over the sisters' meeting to be held at Bloombsbury Central Church, London, on May 4, on the occasion of the anniversary of that famous place of worship. SEVERAL interesting Welsh concerts were held during this week in London, and an account of them will be included in our next issue. Mr. William Trevena Williams Idris and Mr. Walter Howell Williams Idris, the two eldest sons of Mr. T. H. W. Idris, M.P., passed their final examinations for the Bar this Easter.
