Notes and News. A CELT correspondent, who was in the picturesque village of Llanbadarn, Cardigan- shire, on Monday, saw the golden gorse in bloom, not to. mention lilac, primroses, and daisies, all in flower. LAST week's Taller, a high class London Society weekly, contains an exceedingly clever full page humorous picture by Mr. Bert Thomas. Mr. Thomas is a Welshman and belongs to Swansea. TO-DAY (Saturday) the Welsh International Rugby Team play the English XV, at Cardiff. A victory for Cambria is generally expected. If the Saxons win, they will have accomplished what they have not previously done for thirteen years. THE mysterious disappearance of Miss Charlesworth, Bod Erw, St Asaph, is occa- sioning the liveliest interest in Wales. The pictures of the lady in Welsh costume were particularly interesting. WHEN all the other projected new build- ings and statues are erected at Cathays Park, Cardiff, it will be one of the finest places in the United Kingdom. MR. SAM THOMPSON, the Conservative can- didate to oppose Mr. Herbert Roberts at the next Parliamentary election, is making a very good impression. Mr. Thompson, who is an ex-collier, can speak very well in both languages. It is evident that the Welsh Conservatives are beginning to realise the fact that if they are to win seats in Wales, they must select men who are more in touch with the people, and able to speak Welsh in addition to English. THE well known hymn," From Greenland's Icy Mountains," was composed by the late Dr. Heber, bishop of Calcutta, when on a visit to Wrexham, North Wales. Wales can, consequently, be claimed as the birthplace of a hymn that is known all over the civilised world. Dr. Heber's wife, by the way, was Welsh. IF George Borrow could visit the Devil's Bridge to-day, how he would be surprised at the many changes effected in that romantic spot since the year he visited it,'viz., 1854! THIRTY years ago, Bargoed, in Monmouth- shire, was a village of 1,500 people. To- day it is a busy town of 10,000 inhabitants. Welsh was the principal language there less than 20 years ago, but, to-day, unfortunately, the influx of Saxons has made English the principal tongue. COCHFARF has returned from America a more convinced Free Trader than ever. Protection, says this worthy Welsh patriot, is not to the advantage of the Yankee work- ing man. Gwir iawn. WELSH travellers visiting America, Canada, Australia, &c., invariably agree that the Cymro in those countries is very clannish. He gives the best help and encouragement to every new Welsh arrival. The same thing cannot be said of the home-staying Cymro. He is, in our opinion, not clannish enough. THERE is a pretty general opinion amongst the commercial experts that trade will revive this year. We hope their prophecies will prove correct. Wales could very well do with more trade. THERE are dozens of vacant houses in Aberystwyth just now. Why does not he, himself, do a bit of fight- ing for Wales instead of criticising the efforts of others.
