Notes and News.
MR. M. 0. JONES, Treherbert, is dead. He was well known in musical circles in Wales, and had been a prominent leader of that art for the past 50 years. He was a native of Llanberis, where he was born some 67 years since but he went down south as a young schoolmaster, to Treherbert, where he laboured faithfully for close on half a century. THE late Mr. M. 0. Jones was a very zealous Congregationalist, and conducted cymanfaoedd canu in all parts of Wales. He was one the editors of the Caniedydd Cynulleidfaol," where several of his hymn tunes are to be found. He was a versatile writer on musical subjects, and his bio- graphical Dictionary of Welsh Musicians is one of the best works of the kind published. OUR well-known young baritone, Mr. David Evans, has been engaged to sing at the Great National Eisteddfod to be held in Salt Lake City, America, on October 1, 2, and 3 of this year. This is one of the chief Welsh events in America, and no doubt our young fellow citizen will do full justice to the occasion. THE Hawarden Castle, which is reputed to be the oldest house in Chester, had a narrow escape from destruction by a fire which broke out in the next house on Wednesday last. ———— Miss KEELING, who was well known at Aberystwyth, died last week at the age of 88. Her mother and grandmother were regular attendants at the services conducted by Daniel Rowlands at Llangeitho. THE ashes of the cremated body of the late Dr. Isac Roberts, the distinguished astro- nomer, who died four years ago, were last week sealed in the stone which has been erected to his memory at Flaybrick Hill Cemetery, Birkenhead.
