J Coal Direct from Colliery. REDUCED SUMMER PRICES. The lowest possible SUMMER prices of coal are now ruling. For some years we have urged the advantages of laying in Winter stcck at the present season. Those of our clients who have taken this advice have always benefited, and last year saved at least FOUR SHILLINGS PER TON. by purchasing early instead of delaying until August or September. The several recent advances in miners' wages, to- gether with the MENACE OF AN EIIGHT HOURS BILL, positively prohibit lower figures being offered than those now quoted. Indeed, on account of the IMMENSE INCREASE; IN FOREIGN EXPORTS OF COAL. we firmly believe prices will rise con- siderably as the season advance. THE FREE LIBRARY SITE.
THE FREE LIBRARY SITE. The erection of a new free library building is proving a more difficult problem than many anticipated, the obstacle in the way being the right of light enjoyed by Mr Williams, the occupier of the adjoining premises, on wnose behalf Messrs, Chamberlain and' Johnson are acting. The Council met in committee on Wednesday •evening to consider the position. What de-I. cision was arrived at is not as yet public property, but there will be a special meeting of the Council this (Saturday) morning to ap- prove or disapprove of the recommendation. We may inform our readers- that the recom- mendiation is a very drastic one, and one that should receive the most careful consideration before being finally adopted. At the present stage we have no desire to enter into the merits of the dispute, and trust an amicable arrangement will be arrived at.
THE GRAND.
THE GRAND. THE NEW GIHL. This is the, title of a bright and amusing musical comedy which is being presented at the Grand Theatre this week. The play is full of catchy songs, smart dialogue, and clever danoting. Mr Edward Colman as Colonel Bullet gave a whimsical representation of an old military man in love with a young girl, and was ably supported in their respective parts by Mr Ralph Lynn, Mr Edward McIntyre, and Mr Kenneth Black, junr., as the boarding house butler. Miss Rosa Ben- nett made an ideal New Girl, her admirable rendering of various songs being loudly and deservedly applauded. In the character of Cerise, a Frencih schoolgirl, Miss Ivy Leighton was seen to advantage, her acting and danc- ing being exceedingly clever. All the other members of the company assisted to make "The New Girl" .a play to watch, in order to spend a very pleasant evening.
MR. CHARLES IIAWTREY'S COMPANY…
MR. CHARLES IIAWTREY'S COMPANY IN "DEAR OLD CHARLIE." "Dear Old Charlie," Mr Charles Hawtrey's latest success, from the Vaudeville Theatre, London, is the attraction at the Grand Theatre next week. It is a three act farcical comedy by Charles H. E. Brookfield, and, unlike some "farcical comedies" hat we have seen, it has the merit of being irresistibly funny. The scene is the same as used at the Vaudeville Theatre, and' the Company selected by that eminent actor, Mr Charles Haw tree, in- cludes Mr Lestocq, who will play "Dear Old Charlie." Miss Marjorie Chard is the "Agnes,' and Miss Leonora Brahame, whose name will be remembered so many years with Gilbert and Sullivan operas, also appear in the cast. There is also, included in the cast such well-known people as Mr C. Douglas Cox and Mr Duncan Young, Mr Cyril Vernon, Mr Stanley Arthur, Mr Gordon Smythe, and Miss M." E. Ellis. The piece is one of the lightest and brightest, and affords an admirable couple, of hours' amlusemenit. The story is concerned with matrimonial entanglements, in which Charles Ingleton, known to his intimate friends as "Dear Old Charlie," plays a prominent part. He is on friendly terms with Thos. Demple, a melancholy bore, who constantly harps upon his dead wife. Then another of "Dear Old Charlie's friends is Gabriel Peploe, but he is the exact opposite of Demple, a cheery, hustling type of man, who can do nothing in his own household without consulting Charlie. Charlie has been receiving letters of a com- promising character from ladies other than the daughter of Colonel Fishbourne, whom he marries. The oompldcatiotns and the fuiss which surrounds the marriage ceremony and the subsequent proceedings are almost indes- cribable. They are, it may be said, at once such as keep the audience in a perpetual ripple of laughter. The company in whose hands the play is consists of excellent actors and actresses.
THE PRINCE'S.
THE PRINCE'S. ARE YOU A MASON? The high-clas character of the company ap- pearing -at the Prince's Theatre during the past few weeks was well sustained during the nrst part oi the week by Mr Ghiarles Macdona's company, including as it did Mr E.. H. Patter- son and Miss Adelaide Grace as Mr and Mrs Gloodgiood in "Are You a Mason?" Roars of laughter greeted the admirable presentation of the farce, the interest in which was sustained until the final fall of the curtain. 'Every part was in capable hands, and the fun was fast and furious until the large audience fairly rolled in their seats. Special mention should be made of the impersonation of a lady in the second and third acts by Mr -H. Langdon Bruce. It was quite the best piece of acting of its kind seen in Llandudno far a long time.
"MRS,. DOT."
"MRS,. DOT." Miss Deoima MOOTiØ is playing the title role in Miss Emma and Mr Percy Hutchinson's principal London Company's "Mrs Dot, which is being staged at the Prince's Theatre for the last three nights of this week. No one who puides himself on being a playgoer, can afford to miss this opportunity of seeing Miss Mootre's marvellous acting, and supported as she is by an exceedingly strong caste, we have no hesitation in stating that "Mrs Dot" as pro- duced ait the Prince's Theatre will rank as the theatrical event of the Llandudno season.
NEXT WEEK.
NEXT WEEK. "GREIED OF GOLD." A change to drama will be made for the first part of next week, and Mr Morton Powell's Company produces "re Greed of Gold," the story of a, dumb man, which has be!6in played over 5000 times, and been a popu- lar success all over the world. The story is that of a man stricken diumib through fright, who is subsequently accused of an awful crime, and his pitiful attempts to explain in dumb show how the. deed was committed never fails to hold the audience in a powerful grip of sympathy. Mrs Morton Powell's company includes scane well-known names, and may be relied upon to give, this powerful drama full justice.
THE PRIVATE SECRETARY.
THE PRIVATE SECRETARY. Plays may come and plays may go, but the "Private Secretary" goes on for ever, with its popularity undimmed, its hum.orous, situations and sparkling dialogue evoking as hearty laughter now as when first presented to the British public miorce years ago than one. cares to remember. Mr E. Graham,-Falcon's com- pany will present this, the funniest falrcical comedy ever written, at the Prince's on Thurs- day, Friday and Saturday of next week. Mr Graham-Falcon's1 Company is one of excep- tional talent, and lovers of a merry evening should not miss the opportunity of seeing the famous fatrce.
