THE CHORAL SOCIETY.—On Sunday evening, the members of the Choral Society, who recently gave such a successful concert in the Town Hall, met at the Guild Hall for the purpose of considering the desirability of com- peting at the forthcoming National Eisteddfod. It was explained by the Chairman of the Com- mittee that the choir, if formed, would be quite independent of the Choral Society, but some of the members had felt that it would be a stimu- lus to the choir to undertake competitive work. Several spoke on the matter at the meeting, and it was ultimately decided to form a choir, and a committee of ladies and gentlemen was appointed to arrange the necessary details. It is proposed to enter the second choral competi- tion of the Eisteddfod, and any persons inde- pendent of the Choral Society wishing to join should send in their names as early as possible to Mr. R. The attendance was excellent, and the speeches, each of half-an-hour's duration, were listened to with rapt attention. Mr. Wainwrigbt referred to the hardship of suspending men for a few days for trivial offences, a practice which was growing. Not only were the men penalised, but the wives and children had to suffer, as it meant stopping the supplies. The remedy had been somewhat supplied, by the Society granting 24s. per week, or 4s. per day, to members who were not guilty of serious misconduct.
