Notes and News. ANOTHER Life of the Rev. Thomas Charles," of Bala, is about to be published. It appears that previous biographers have done him scant justice, and as many fresh materials have been brought to the light of day, it is hoped that the present attempt will remove all the disputed points relating to his work and mission. IN the list of successful candidates for the degree of Bachelor of Science of the Uni- versity of London, just published, we notice the name of Miss Lily Roberts, daughter of Ap Nefydd, Stoke Newington. She is to be heartily congratulated on her high distinc- tion. THERE is great comment in Wales in regard to Mr. Lloyd-George's speech at In Manchester, in which he referred to himself as an old Lancashire lad." It is true that the famous statesman was born in Manchester, but as he removed to Carnarvonshire when he was about two years of age, it is hardly correct to describe Mr. Lloyd-George as an old Lancashire lad." AT the recent Conference of the Church Association, the Vicar of Sileby observed that the Church was in greater danger than it ever was, but the danger had come not from enemies without, but from traitors within, who were trying to de-Protestantise the Church, whilst they were base enough to take the emoluments she offered." IN Cardiff, for instance, all the Anglican Churches (with four exceptions) are con- ducted in a spirit entirely antagonistic to the principles of Protestanism and are quite Romanist in spirit and practice. An honest Roman Catholic one can respect, but the Anglican parson who masquerades as a Romanist whilst accepting Protestant pay is certainly a traitor. LORD NINIAN STUART, brother of the Marquis of Bute, is making a very successful debut as Conservative candidate for Cardiff, and as the Labour Party have decided to run a candidate at the next election, Lord Ninian stands an excellent chance of defeating the present Liberal M.P., Mr. Ivor Guest. Lord Ninian spoke partly in Welsh at one of his recent meetings, to the keen delight of the Welshmen present. This is more than many of the present Welsh M.P.'s can do. APROPOS of Lord Ninian's ability to speak Welsh it is interesting to note that the late Marquis was a great admirer of the Welsh language and had a good knowledge of Cymric literature. He engaged a tutor to specially teach Welsh to his sons, and was once heard to say that the Welshman who could not speak his own language was not a very worthy one. ONE of the best Welshmen in Cardiff is Mr. David Beynon, proprietor of the Park Coal Company. Mr. Beynon is a deacon at Crwys Road Welsh Calvinistic Methodist Chapel, and takes great interest in the Sunday School; and the Cymmrodorion Society. Despite Cardiff's cosmopolitanism it contains many Welshmen of the very best type, of whom Mr. Beynon is one. "4 CARNELIAN' will have it that the Welsh language is getting more popular of late. He even heard it spoken on a bicycle, and a 'petticoat bicycle.' This paragon woman said to him, Cerwch oddiar y ffordd y dyn,' and 'Carnelian' was astonished," says the Glamorgan County Times. THE Labour Leader, in its last issue, insinuated that Mr. Richard Bell was to receive a Government post. This attempt to prejudice Mr. Bell in the eyes of the railway- men is seen through. Mr. Bruce Glasier, the editor, may be a very canny Scot, but people are not so green as he thinks. SOME of the farm hands in Cardiganshire are trying to form a union. They complain that they work too long, and have other grievances. It will be remembered that farm hands in Anglesey went out on strike some few years ago. Verily, times and con- ditions are changing.
