"'.-Hippodrome, Tonypandy.1
Hippodrome, Tonypandy. 1 "Following in Father's Footsteps" is the title, of a very laughable sketch per t armed by the Heriot Trio. The plot re reals both father and son enamoured of a favourite actress, and whilst trying tc* obtain her photograph, the son dis- co rers his father there on a .similar errand. The sketch i- extremely funn and very well acted 75y the Heriot Trio. A very clever turn is contributed by Hunter and Maris, who appear in a new refined and certainly talented comedy novelty. The gentleman partner pro vides something entirely new in his nove but difficult" periwinkle twist. Wisper, the comedy juggler, provides rare amuse ment with his" cod" tricks; whils Beat-tie Bloom, comedienne, is greatly appreciated in all her latest successes. A special engagement this week is tha of = Baby Watkins, a wonderful chil artiste of tender years hailing from Fern- dale, Her songs are excellently rendere with that charming naivete which is only to be found in a juvenile artiste. The pictures again include several" lovely merles, including two beautiful pictur ioHries, "The Indian" and" The Engi neer's Daughter." Some very laughabl pictures are shown, among which we may mention The Cheesemonger's Dog," Who's Got Mv Hat?" and" Galin Travelling." Next week, a very fine holiday pro gramme of star artistes is llooke1! to appear, particulars of which will be foun m our advertising columns.
Giants at the Hippodrome.
Giants at the Hippodrome. One of the greatest novelties of the century will be seen at the Hippodrome, tonypandy, next week. We refer to the colossal engagement of Bob Pender an his troupe of giants, in a merry mix-up, a- they appeared in Drury Lane panto mime. The troupe comprises dwarfs from 2ft. to towering giants 20ft. high. Thi sounds a little far-fetched, but neverthe- less it ie perfectly true, as a visit to the Hippo." next week will prove. The Pender Troupe will be ably supported by a strong bill. We are also informed that shortly the famous Mr. George Leyton is booked to appear at the Hippodrome in his great military scena.
Empire, Tonypandy.
Empire, Tonypandy. Votaries of the science of physical cul- ture find their Mecca this week at the Empire, Tonypandy, where Peter Gotz, the world-renowned wrestler, gives nightl demonstrations of the art which has made tiiffi famous. Mr. Gotz takes all-comers at liie weight in the catch-as-eatch-can fetyle, and, needless to say, the competi tions provide some excellent as well as oxciting moments. He is a very clea and scientific wrestler, and those upon i-iiom he conducts his "experiments" may rest assured that their limbs will receive human consideration at the hands of Mr. Gotz. In addition to his wrestling exhibitions, the famous wrestler cives about 20 illustrations showing how to defend oneself against a possible sud- den attack by hooligans. A very clever and well-appreciated turn is that give by Irve Hayman and Company. The mid- tuglit episode, "Christmas Eve," wherei is shown the taming of a burglar by a little girl, is extremely touching. The Four Panamas are responsible for a hilarious time in their pantomimical speciality, The Delineator," and are -accorded warm anoroval. Miss Rayford is • einger of refined songs and a pretty dancer, who instantly captures the hearts the audience. Linn and Darius sub mit a pleasing vocal and instrumental torn; whilst Ernest Tilbury secur approbation with capital songs well ren- dered. The new feature, the Empire Music Sheet (the songs being sung by Ben Thompson, Treherbert), is becoming very popular. The Empiroscope, with • pHendid pictures, and a capital selection of music by the orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Arthur BreakweU, con-l ductor, complete a very entertaining bill.

Theatre Royal, Tonypandy*
Theatre Royal, Tonypandy* The sensational drama, The Way Out IVest," which has attracted large audi- ences to the Royal this week, literally abounds with thrilling: incidents and comic interludes, life in the Far West being dealt with in a realistic manner. The acting is forcibly displayed through- out, and we have no hesitation in pro- nouncing it a complete success. Mr. Junius Booth's company, who have been so well received in this melodrama, are on Thursday, Friday and Saturday venings of this week giving a new and original version of Monte Cristo," which should on no account be missed. The play is found on Dumas' popular novel, and the caste is arranged as fol- lows 11 Edmund Dantes, Prisoner 17, and Count of Monte Cristo," Mr. Junius Booth; M. Palace Porth.
Palace Porth. An excellent programme is submitted at the Palace this week, the original Bonnie Goodwin's Apollo Piccaninnies t9pping the bill. This troupe of excep- tionally clever dancers is under the management of Miss Lily Viae, who is also a most accomplished artiste, both vocal and daifcing. Miss Gracie Grahame, comedienne, who is a. popular favourite, instantly captures all hearts. Excellent vocalist with good songs, and a charm- ing actress, she is greatly appreciated, and is forced to respond several times to he loud demands for encores. Madge Beresford, chic comedienne, is also a very winsome artiste, possessing both grace and elegance, and creates a great impression. The Estor Trio, equilibrists, should be seen, for they are really wonderful, and cannot be justly described. They re- ceive loud approbation. The San Remo Girls, singers and dancers, are also very entertaining, while their acrobatic dancing is fine. Arthur J. Hill, in his Lilliputian episode, is par excellence, and is responsible for roars of laughter. Ray and Lingard, in their dialogue, "1 First

Tivoli Pentre. Tivoli Pent…
Tivoli Pentre. Tivoli Pent re. The star engagement this week is that of Little Hackenschmidt, the famous boy wrestler jrtid champion at his weight, namely, 7st, 61b. Young Hackenschmidt is his own manager, and his speech each evening is full of challenges to local wrestlers. To many of these he gives an' advantage of a stone or more in weight, so that his series of victories is a good one, and all the more creditable for being' accomplished against this important dis- advantage. On Monday evening, he, in each turn, disposed of two good local wrestlers. His opponents were obliged to act upon the defensive for nine-tenths] of the period. There will probably be; large ennuis at the Tivoli this week, as' the competition for local wrestlers, 01',1 rather, the award of a gold-centre medal for the best opposition to Young Haeken-I schmidt during the week is certain to' arouse keen interest and not a little excitement. The second star turn is un-I ■doubtedly that of the Brooklyn Comedy .Quartet, wlio_ contribute some very !pleasing selections, with musical comedy of rare quality. Each one is a capable soloist, while the blend of the four voices in the chorus work was excellent. One of the soloists reaches a very low depth |in notes to stir up his companions. Lily land Harry Zanoni are jugglers and club [manipulatory of good class, the latter speciality being loudly applauded. Mi Narom is a very unusual comedienne. Her get-up is very unique, and comical in the extreme. Her songs are taking, the choruses being simple and catchy. Of the lpict-Lirep-, Belishazzar'fc. Feast" is worth the whole money paid for, admittance. The whole Biblical story is portrayed, and contains so much elaborate1 detail that it occupies fifteen or twenty minutes upon the screen.
The Boisset Troupe at Pentre.
The Boisset Troupe at Pentre. Next week at the Tivoli, Pentre, will see the appearance of the renowned Boisset Troupe. During the present week they are performing at the Palace, Glou- cester, and it is interesting to read what I" The Citizen of May 10th says about them:—"The bill at the Palace Theatre, Gloucester, reverts to variety again this week, the chief feature of the programme being provided by the great Boisset' Troupe of eccentrics. The bewildering! rapidity with which they appear, dis- appear, and reappear in their sketch The] [Bricklayers' makes it almost impossible to say how many the troupe contains, but there are a great many of them, and their extraordinary antics in laying bricks,' etc., on the half-finished build- ing which forms the background to their act, caused immense amusement on Mon- day night. It is a mixture of harlequinade, tumbling, and knockabout, and is very laughable because so utterly ludicrous in itself. The gag with the barrel organ land the fits and stars is a scream and really the funniest part of an unusual performance." The Boissets are also sup- ported by a powerful company.
Opera House, Treherbert.
Opera House, Treherbert. Another excellent bill of fare is pro- vided at the above theatre this week. Brimful of amusing features and causing loud peals of hearty laughter were. the ,pictures entitled Taking a Photograph," j" A Patient from the Provinces," ;"TWearybones Seeks Rest, and The [Uncontrollable Motor Cycle." Of a [different character is the picture, }" Father Christmas," which depicts pic- itorxally a pretty story of how a little child's appealing letter to Father Christ- mas when in distress was answered. ["Stag Hunting in Java" and "A Trip jto the White Sea" were two very in- teresting pictures. The plot leading up to the assassination of Julius Caesar, the Roman Emperor, was clearly depicted in the picture entitled Julius Caesar." The battle scene at Philippi was especially good. A most ingeniously produced pic- ture was one which went by the name of ("Dissolving the Government." By some mysterious arrangement, the portraits of ,tlie leading politicians of the day ap- peared to develop upon the sheet out of 'an apparently shapeless mass of viseous 'substance. Two special variety turns add to the attraction this week. The Godfreys, in their musical act. The Slavey and the. Coon," give a first-rate1 exhibition on several instruments. In concertina playing they can hardly be excelled. The male artiste actually makes the- instrument speak in its way, several sentences being distinctly understood. The Sisters Judge and their Performing Cockatoos provide a wonderfully clever performance. The birds have been trained to perform some really wonder- ful feats, and the audience is delighted each evening with the extraordinary intelligence shown by these pretty feathered
I ,Cardiff Empire.
I Cardiff Empire. Nothing could be better in the way of a bright and varied programme than tha which has been arranged for the coming week at the Cardiff Empire. The chief item on the bill will be the one and only Marie Lloyd, queen of the variety stage, and darling of the gods." She will bring along with her all her latest song successes, and no one should miss this opportunity of seeing the great come- dienne. Another big attraction is Dion Wade, comedian and mimic. He commenced his career on the variety stage six years ago as a mimic. Immediately he tasted the sweets of success, for his impersonations of R. G. Knowles, George Robey, and Harry Lauder were particularly happy and true to life. In addition to the above, there will be a powerful company of star artistes, in- cluding G. W. Hunter, tlie well-known comedian and raconteur; Talbot and Pearce, in Japanese musical duologues and song scenas; Phil Roes' Stable Lads, in a novel racing act; FI rt Williams, ventriloquist; Ryan and Hall, acrobats and eccentric comedians; Sisters St. Julian, duettists and dancers Vandinoff, a lightning artist in oils; and the most up-to-date and interesting Bioscope pictures.

_..L ".The Little Damozel"
_L ".The Little Damozel" a To Visit the New Theatre. One of the most important attractions of the season is announced for next week at the New Theatre, Cardiff, when "The Little Damozel will occupy the boards. This play, which concluded last week a run of over 200 nights at Illyiidhaiia's Theatre, London, has had the honour of being twice commanded to appear before Royalty at Sandringham. The story tells how Recklaw Poole, a iouiig, liglit-headed his better nature to marry Julie Alardy, I how Recklaw Poole, a young, light-headed, the harpist in the orchestra of the Cafe .Angelique, for £ 15,000. The offer is that of an elderly admirer! of Julie's, who having become engaged to a Society girl, wishes to make sure that Julie, to whom he has engaged himself, will not inter- fere, so Recldaw is induced to take on the job. Julie and Reekie are very happy until she discovers she has been bought, and then there is a terrible scene; but, of course, true love finds a. way out.of it all. The company present- ing the play is an exceptionally strong one, and is the same that played the piece at the. Princes Theatre, Bristol, a few weeks ago. The Little Damozel will be played by that charming actress, Miss Emelie Polini, who will be remem- bered in Cardiff for her beautiful per- formance of Sunda and Diana in Diana of Dobson's." Mr. Alick Chumley has been specially engaged to play Mr. Chas. Hawtrey's part of Recklaw Poole. This well-known actor was for years one of the principal members with Sir Charles Wyndham, who has kindly released him to play the part in the provinces. These artistes will be supported by an excep- tionally strong company, personally rehearsed by the author, and the entire scenery and properties are an exact reproduction of those used at Wyndham's Theatre. A matinee is announced for Monday.
