,Hippodrome, Tonypandy.
Hippodrome, Tonypandy. The great English protean actress Marie Jones, presents with wonderful success her lightning change comedy play- let, entitled 7 Wanted! The Co-Respon- dent." The piece is entirely written and invented by Miss Jones. who plays seven dtstinet characters and making in all fifteen complete changes. Miss Jones plays the part of wife to a Mr. B. Smart, who wants to become a detective. She, however, wants to dissuade him from undertaking this kind of work, and so tiets about her task by appearing in different characters. The changes are the essence of rapidity, and the audience 13 not slow in recognising them in the proper way, The La Faille Troupe of risley -acrobats contribute an excellent acrobatic turn, which provokes loud ap- plause, Mr, H. T. Chinn, the great Welsh concertinist, introduces a number of concertinas, upon which he performs with wonderful dexterity. Upon his very large bass concertina he successfully renders the well-known song, "Asleep in the Deep." Chant and Chant appear with no little success in their vocal comedy busi- ness, whilst Mr. Bob Morgan, Tonypandy, the well-known baritone, beautifully ren- ders illustrated songs. The picture por- tion of the programme is both varied and interesting," The 4 Death Disc" is a sensational picture story, so is the one entitled "Pygmalion and Galatea." Pic- tures -of a humorous nature are What Happened to Brown," "The Mustard Plaster,' and Making it Pleasant for Him," &c. Another fine bill of fare is announced for next week, headed by the Heriot Troupe of comedy sketch artistes.
Theatre Royal, Tonypandy.
Theatre Royal, Tonypandy. "The Better Land," presented this week at the Royal by the Fred Granville Company, is brimful of pathetic and ex- citing interests well set out by clever and capable artistes. The part of "Phillip Rldcliffe is well sustained by Mr. Douglas Watson, while that of his wife, "u Doris," is presented with rare talent .and realism, while the role of the villain, "Hubert" (Phillips' brother) is cleverly impersonated by Alr Leonard Borker. f Charming specimens of juvenile talent are given by Miss Gertie Moody as "Harry" (Phillips' son), and Miss Elsie Jones as Tessa (Harry's Gal "), and the scene at Harry's deathbed, when Tessa sings The Better Land to the dying boy, is most affecting. Miss Madge Trevelvan appears to advantage as "Mercedes" (Herbert Radcliffe's unacknowledged wife), and Miss Bella Moody is greatly appreciated in her quaint impersonation of <i Aunt" Jemima." The detective, White," is presented by Mr, Fred Elvin, and sufficient comedy is introduced iiito the play by "Polly Perkins (Miss Kitty T'enifõ\" "Will Bones (Mr. J. F. Hwgh^^)> pn. "Tom Tadpole" (Mr. lu'iaiie • Mr, James Berth's company hold the boards next week. and will present the new drama or Western American life, "The Way Out West," on Monday, Tues- day and Wednesday, and a new and original version of the ever-popular play, Monte Cristo," on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday,
Empire, Tonypandy
Empire, Tonypandy The programme this week is one of all- round excellence. Topping the bill is a very clever cycle balancing act performed bv the Woodwards. As demonstrated by itam, tho art of balancing has become not only a science of skill, otrfc & science in v,luch. guesswork is conspicuous lay # its absence. This marvellous and original -performance Fins a large share of ap- plause. T_9 Gondolier Glee Sitigers (the John Lloyd Quartet) appear with no little success in their various renderings of classical glees and humorous vocal items whilst the Lancashire comedian, Monty Walker, by his latest song. I'll call a little later on," has made himself a great favourite with Tonypandy audiences. A -I)Iethora of harmony and eccentric dancing is created fov Kendrick and Laura. Their singing is extremely good, and their step- ping is distinctly original. A beau- tiful and clever trapeze act is given by Murguerifca, whilst other strong turns are those of Will Rhodes, comedian, and Rosie Bartlett. male impersonator. Mr. Ben Thompson (Treherbert) sings "Red Wing," accompanied by coloured illustrations pro- jected Empire Song Sheet. The. Empiroseope depicts The Hunchback" Fiddler and several other series, during which the Empire. Orchestra render" II Trovatore (Verdi) and "The Butterflv" (Bendix). v The champion lightweight wrestler of the world, Peter Gotz, is due to appear at the Empire next week. At the Olympia, London, February 3rd, 1910, Gotz gained eight falls in 21 minutes, easily beating all records in international wrestling. Gotz in his time has defeated many well- known wrestlers and won over 200 impor- tant wrestling matches. On Friday next, the full band of the Rhondda Tramways will perform at each j house, and the Empire management are, giving half the proceeds towards the 1 band's funds.
Palace, Porth.
Palace, Porth. A very fine programme is submitted at the Palace this week, and the manage- i ment should be congratulated -Lipon the superior quality of their show. Ritter and Foster, comedians and dancers, top the bill with a real funny performance indeed. Exceedingly witty, and eccentric to a very high degree, they are respon- sible for loud and- continuous laughter,; while their dancing is greatly admired. Hunter and Maris are also great in their refined scena. Truly a talented pair are these two artistes, who evoke great en- thusiasm and applause, Charles Penrose, comedian, is an inimitable character, and one that becomes an instant success and is much appreciated. Mabel Le Roy, chorus comedienne, and burlesque actress, is very charming. Bert Woodward, the steepechasing cyclist, displays a dexterity on the cycle that is quite amazing, and is the recipient of loud encomiums. An excellent and most amusing item is sub- mitted by the Heriot Trio in a sketch, "Father's Footsteps." This is a real farcical comedy that merits the appro- bation accorded. Chas. Mildare, whistling comedian, is also a very clever artiste who quite disguishes himself as a whistler. The Bioscope pictures of Mr. Roosevelt in Africa are worthy of our highest praise, and should be seen by young and old.
* Tivoli, Pent re.
Tivoli, Pent re. The C'ingalee," the brilliantly suc- cessful musical comedy, is presented by Haldane Crichton's company. This engage- ment must be very expensive; scenery, dresses and staging of the whole comedy is entirely first-class, and the large num- ber constituting the company includes several well-known performers. The audi- ence is kept interested and amused from the first moment, there being two very long acts, with only a short interval be- tween. The first act has its scene in Vereker's Tea Plantation, Karagama, Ceylon. An Englishman, Vereker, falls in love with Nanoya, one of the prettiest tea girls, but the course of love is not allowed to run smoothly. The tea, girl is carried off by a wealthy Indian Prince, who claims the girl as the result of some smart work by his assistant, who is an extremely clever actor, causing endless laughter by his antics and imitations of English swank." In the second act we are £ own Boobhamba's palace by the Lake 01 5and.Ythe cantured girl is imprisoned in çU to her will and opposition to marriage. However} she. is finally'set free by legal documents, and two happy marriages mark the end of the comedy. In this act there are Parahara dances by Miss Sadie Thompson. Such a quaint series of dances has seldom been witnessed at the Tivoli. To say that the comedy is successful is to use a well- worn expression, which loses none of its truth by being re-stated. The song chorus. My Cinnamon Tree," was ren- dered in delightful fashion. The principal characters are excellent, and the whole company compares very favourable with the best that visit provincial tonm

Opera House, Treherbert. For being u,-to-date the Treherbert Picture Palace .(Opera House) cannot possibly be beaten at present. During this week packed houses are being attracted, Messrs. Poole having secured a very fine picture of the most recent feat which has thrilled the whole ivorld-tlie- aerial contest from London to Manchester. Another of great attractions is an excel- lent picture of the English Cup Final at the Crystal Palace between Barnsley and Newcastle United. The Gorge of Salva" is a most instructive picture to students of Nature, and Sexton Blake, Detective." is immensely exciting and popular, especially so to the youths. of the audience. Among the pictures which nre being shewn on Thursday, Fridav and Saturda v are:—" The Golden "The Right to Love," '"How the Dog
New Theatre, Cardiff.
New Theatre, Cardiff. "THE PRISONER OF ZENDA." The play that electrified London, The Prisoner of Zenda," will be the attrac- tion at the New Theatre, Cardiff, next week. It is a romantic play by Edward Rose, founded on Anthony Hope's famous novel of the same name'; originally pro- duced by Mr. George Alexander at the St. James' Theatre, London, it enjoyed a run of nearly 700 nights, and has recently been revived at the same theatre, where it again met with great success. The play, which deals with the adventures of a young Englishman in the kingdom of Ruitania, is full of interest, with touches of bright humour and wit. The company presenting the play is an exceptionally strong one. Mr. George Alexander's of the dual role of Rudolf Rassendyel and King Rudolf V. will be played by that well-known actor, Mr. Mark Blow, who has played this part for over 800 nights, and in this character is seen at his best. The part of Princess Flavia will be in the hands of Miss Marie Polini, fresh from her success at the Havmarket Theatre, London. She will be remem- bered at Cardiff for her fine performance in that charming comedy. The Thief." The company also include Mr. George A. Brandram, Mr. Julian Cross, Mr. Townsend Whitling, Miss Violet Ley, &c. The entire scenery and effects are travelled by the company, and will be found to be an exact replica of that used at the St. James' Theatre. London. Those that have not vat read this famous novel will have an opportunity of doing so next week, as the management announce that on Mon- day evening they will present every lady in the audience with a complete copy of the novel.

Cardiff Empire-
Cardiff Empire- One of the chief attractions on next week's programme is Sam Mayo, the immobile comedian, who has a line collec- tion of new songs and gags for his audiences. Sam Mayo is undoubtedly one of our greatest comedians of the day, and his latest songs have brought him greater fame than ever. He leapt into popularity with meteor- like rapidity his quaint, lugubrious style, his peculiar voice and delivery, his mannerisms stamping him an original of the first water. In two or three weeks after his first appearance, he had signed contracts for as many years, and when in London he always, works four or five theatres. Another big attraction is Ray Wallace, the original mimic at the piano, who pro- vides a very pleasing and charming enter- tainment, A great military episode will also be presented, entitled Drummed Out." There is a big caste in this piece, and it has been pronounced by both public and Press alike to be one of our finest military episodes. The other items on the bill include Orpheus, the master of melody, who intro- duces a new musical instrument known as the Heckiephone; Chas. Santon, the wonderful male soprano Harry Friskey, American comedy juggler; Dot Hardy, a very quaint little comedienne; Sisters I Caselli, duettists and expert dancers; and the latest and most interesting Bioocope pictures.,
