i- TONYPANDYS Great Shopping Week. Extensive Preparations for Xmas Week. A Peep at the Shops. Free Gifts to Shoppers. Our artic-le "A Peep at the Shops," ls with Tonypandy as a shopping centre. It gives our readers some idea of the up-to-date-ness which characterises tradesmen in Tonypandy—their efforts to gire. sound value for money, and, above all, to show that courtesy, and respect which is necessary to a. continuance of trade. Once again we are within view of the forthcoming Christmas festival, and our tradesmen are doing their level best to attract customers from Upper Rhon- dda, Tonyrefail, and other parts of our populous Valleys, and are vieing one with the other to make their window displays as attractive as possible. A visit to Tonypandy would amply repay all those who are seeking bargains and novelties for their own use or as seasonable gifts to their friends. GROCERS. The grocers this year are well to the fore; Messrs. Meredith and Sons, Pandy Square, Tonypandy, have a large stock of high-class chocolates in fancy boxes, not to mention the numberless Sajita Claus stockings and satchels packed with dainty morsels. T'eag, coffees, Christmas cakes and dainties are to be had here in good selection. Close by are the premises of Messrs. Evans ancl Griffiths, able successors to Mr. Edward Jenkins. Their windows dis- play the genuine old English plum pud- dings and mincemeat, whilst tinned delicacies, fruit, cakes, and tins of fancy biscuits from Is. upwards are seen in great profusion. Shoppers have also unlimited scope when inspecting Messrs. Kinsey and Co.'s, Tonypandy. They have received a large consignment of Christmas goods in the form of sultanas, muscatels, almonds, biscuits, <fce., whilst they have a special line in non-alcoholic wines from 8 £ d. per bottle. Our readers should take this hint and be teetotal, and at the same time save money. For Wiltshire bacon of the finest quality, Messrs. Husbands Bl'others are hard to beat. The prime article is only lid. per lb., and also their best butter is now reduced to Is. Id. Their Christmas fruits are as equally low in price. The windows of The Imperial Tea and Provision Co., lower end, Tonypandy, are full of selected fruits and a choice selec- tion of Christmas goods. They are also 'retailing plum puddings at lOid. and Is. 3d., and farmhouse cake at 5d. per lb. Good value in every line is the assur- ance given to every shopper. Young mail from country districts will find at Messrs. Thomas Bros., The Welsh Farmhouse Supply, 7. Dunraven Street, Tonypandy, a place where the good old- fashioned articles which their mothers made of yore are to be had. We refer to the wholesome and toothsome farm- house cakes and bread, whilst hundreds of plum puddings in basins are ready to be exchanged for the needful. To the busy housewife this should mean a great saving in time, temper and labour, as the article as made by yourself in your own home is here to bo had. We ought not to forget to mention that the "Anglo" overweight margarine is on sale at most of the above establish- ments. It is retailed at Is. per lb., with which is given free £ lb. overweight. Anglo Margarine is the substitute for best butter and is very nutritious. Hopkin Morgan's special Christmas oake and celebrated Christmas puddings may be had of all grocers. They are manufactured from the finest ingredients and are guaranteed for purity and excel- lence. The New Market Co., Tonypandy, have on show a good selection of Christmas fruits at prices to suit all customers. They ask our readers to drink and enjoy New Market" team at ifi. 4d., Is. 6d., and Ie. 8d. per lb. Everything of the best is to be obtained at J. R. lcvanal grocery store, Pandy Square. Christmas fruit in large variety is here to be found, whilst Evans' Wilt- shire bacom is the prime article. A trial order would please you. BOOTS AND SHOES. The Publis Benefit Boot Co., Pandy Square, are displaying a special line in men's shooting boots at 10s. 6d. They have a pretty line in drees shoes, whilst ohildren's school boots are retailed at from Is, ll £ d. Duifng Christmas week, i a present of a beautiful nickel silver tray will be givea to every purchaser of 2s. 6d. worth and upwards. The windows of Mr. John Rees, the County Boot Stores, Tonypandy, are very artistically dressed with the best brands of boots and shoes. Mr. Rees is at pre- sent offering an extra, special line in Special Bective boots and shoes, the prices for ladies being 16s. 9d., and gents 16s. 6d. There is here to be found a choice selection of cosy slippers suitable for the Yuletide gift. At Christmas time the children espe- cially rejoice at visiting Messrs. Stead and Simpson's Boot Stores, Tonypandy. The reason is a very natural one, but we will not divulge it here; suffice to say that, besides getting value for money in footwear, your children will be extra- ordinarily delighted. For art and value in Christmas foot- wear, we recommend our readers to try T. J. Thomas, Gwalia Boot Stores, Blaen- clydach; also Tredeezie Boot Stores, Tonypandy. When shopping there, ask for your calendar and thermometer, which Mr. Thomas is giving free to all cus- tomers. The working boots coming from the establishment of Mr. W. H. Farmer, Boot and Shoe Stores, 6 and 7, De Winton Street, Tonypandy, carry with them a reputation extending^ over 30 years. The footwear sold by Mr. Farmer is of high- class quality, shoddy rubbish finding no place on his premises. Mr. Farmer also specialises in repairs, at which he is an expert. DRAPERS AND MILLINERS. The two large windows of Mr. J. Owen Jones, draper and milliner, Pandy Square, Tonypandy, are splendidly arrayed with many goods in tasteful and delicate shades Indeed, we should consider them the most tastefully dressed windows in the locality. Ladies' winter millinery and furs are to be seen in great pro- fusion, whilst children's goods are well represented. Some lovely tablecloths are to be seen, whilst we notice that lace curtain hangers are sold by the pair and yard. References to the windows of Mr. D. R.
