i- TONYPANDYS Great Shopping Week. Extensive Preparations for Xmas Week. A Peep at the Shops. Free Gifts to Shoppers. Our artic-le "A Peep at the Shops," ls with Tonypandy as a shopping centre. It gives our readers some idea of the up-to-date-ness which characterises tradesmen in Tonypandy—their efforts to gire. sound value for money, and, above all, to show that courtesy, and respect which is necessary to a. continuance of trade. Once again we are within view of the forthcoming Christmas festival, and our tradesmen are doing their level best to attract customers from Upper Rhon- dda, Tonyrefail, and other parts of our populous Valleys, and are vieing one with the other to make their window displays as attractive as possible. A visit to Tonypandy would amply repay all those who are seeking bargains and novelties for their own use or as seasonable gifts to their friends. GROCERS. The grocers this year are well to the fore; Messrs. Meredith and Sons, Pandy Square, Tonypandy, have a large stock of high-class chocolates in fancy boxes, not to mention the numberless Sajita Claus stockings and satchels packed with dainty morsels. T'eag, coffees, Christmas cakes and dainties are to be had here in good selection. Close by are the premises of Messrs. Evans ancl Griffiths, able successors to Mr. Edward Jenkins. Their windows dis- play the genuine old English plum pud- dings and mincemeat, whilst tinned delicacies, fruit, cakes, and tins of fancy biscuits from Is. upwards are seen in great profusion. Shoppers have also unlimited scope when inspecting Messrs. Kinsey and Co.'s, Tonypandy. They have received a large consignment of Christmas goods in the form of sultanas, muscatels, almonds, biscuits, <fce., whilst they have a special line in non-alcoholic wines from 8 £ d. per bottle. Our readers should take this hint and be teetotal, and at the same time save money. For Wiltshire bacon of the finest quality, Messrs. Husbands Bl'others are hard to beat. The prime article is only lid. per lb., and also their best butter is now reduced to Is. Id. Their Christmas fruits are as equally low in price. The windows of The Imperial Tea and Provision Co., lower end, Tonypandy, are full of selected fruits and a choice selec- tion of Christmas goods. They are also 'retailing plum puddings at lOid. and Is. 3d., and farmhouse cake at 5d. per lb. Good value in every line is the assur- ance given to every shopper. Young mail from country districts will find at Messrs. Thomas Bros., The Welsh Farmhouse Supply, 7. Dunraven Street, Tonypandy, a place where the good old- fashioned articles which their mothers made of yore are to be had. We refer to the wholesome and toothsome farm- house cakes and bread, whilst hundreds of plum puddings in basins are ready to be exchanged for the needful. To the busy housewife this should mean a great saving in time, temper and labour, as the article as made by yourself in your own home is here to bo had. We ought not to forget to mention that the "Anglo" overweight margarine is on sale at most of the above establish- ments. It is retailed at Is. per lb., with which is given free £ lb. overweight. Anglo Margarine is the substitute for best butter and is very nutritious. Hopkin Morgan's special Christmas oake and celebrated Christmas puddings may be had of all grocers. They are manufactured from the finest ingredients and are guaranteed for purity and excel- lence. The New Market Co., Tonypandy, have on show a good selection of Christmas fruits at prices to suit all customers. They ask our readers to drink and enjoy New Market" team at ifi. 4d., Is. 6d., and Ie. 8d. per lb. Everything of the best is to be obtained at J. R. lcvanal grocery store, Pandy Square. Christmas fruit in large variety is here to be found, whilst Evans' Wilt- shire bacom is the prime article. A trial order would please you. BOOTS AND SHOES. The Publis Benefit Boot Co., Pandy Square, are displaying a special line in men's shooting boots at 10s. 6d. Mr. Rees is at pre- sent offering an extra, special line in Special Bective boots and shoes, the prices for ladies being 16s. 9d., and gents 16s. 6d. There is here to be found a choice selection of cosy slippers suitable for the Yuletide gift. At Christmas time the children espe- cially rejoice at visiting Messrs. Stead and Simpson's Boot Stores, Tonypandy. The reason is a very natural one, but we will not divulge it here; suffice to say that, besides getting value for money in footwear, your children will be extra- ordinarily delighted. For art and value in Christmas foot- wear, we recommend our readers to try T. J. Thomas, Gwalia Boot Stores, Blaen- clydach; also Tredeezie Boot Stores, Tonypandy. When shopping there, ask for your calendar and thermometer, which Mr. Thomas is giving free to all cus- tomers. The working boots coming from the establishment of Mr. W. H. Farmer, Boot and Shoe Stores, 6 and 7, De Winton Street, Tonypandy, carry with them a reputation extending^ over 30 years. The footwear sold by Mr. Farmer is of high- class quality, shoddy rubbish finding no place on his premises. Mr. Farmer also specialises in repairs, at which he is an expert. DRAPERS AND MILLINERS. The two large windows of Mr. J. Owen Jones, draper and milliner, Pandy Square, Tonypandy, are splendidly arrayed with many goods in tasteful and delicate shades Indeed, we should consider them the most tastefully dressed windows in the locality. Ladies' winter millinery and furs are to be seen in great pro- fusion, whilst children's goods are well represented. Some lovely tablecloths are to be seen, whilst we notice that lace curtain hangers are sold by the pair and yard. References to the windows of Mr. D. R. Davies, Cheltenham House, and the Temple of Fashion, Tonypandy, will be found under the heading of Christmas bazaars. t Mr. John Lewis' establishment is not lacking in attractiveness, his windows being richly and well stocked, whilst the

COMPLETELY CURED. SUFFERED WITH KIDNEY TROUBLE FOR TWELVE YEARS, AND CURED BY DR. MORSE'S INDIAN ROOT PILLS. "I had always enjoyed good health up to the time I was 21," writes Mr. A. Sampson, 7, Jubilee Street, Bedminster, Bristol, when I had a severe attack of Scarlet Fever, which left me with kidney trouble. I suffered from this complaint for 12 years. About three years ago Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills were brought under my notice, and I was recommended to try them. I gave the Pills a fair trial, and I am now completely cured. I am a bricklayer by trade, which necessitated me stooping a great deal; this no doubt aggravated the disease; but at the pre- sent time I am enjoying perfect health, brought about, I am certain, by Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills. I recommend them to all my friends, not only for the kidneys, but also for Constipation and Indigestion. You may make what use you like of this testimonial." Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills get at the cause by cleansing the stomach, purifying the blood, and aiding the digestion and assimilation of food, and are a positive and permanent cure for Indigestion. ladies are attracted as flowers attract bees. The. millinery department contains some elegant creations which are the envy of the feminine eye. A visit to the drapery store of Messrs. Edwards and Joshua, Oompton House, proves these premises to be replete with all that is newest in the realm of ladies' apparel. Their white show has proved very seductive to the ladies, many of whom surrendered to the charm of the frillings and netwear there exhibited. A very pretty display characterises Mr. J. R. Evans' drapery store windows at Pandy Square. We noticed some exceed- ingly pretty ladies' handkerchiefs and blouses, whilst there is a varied assort- ment of gloves, ties, fancy cushions, &c. GENTS' MERCERS AND OUTFITTERS. Mr. J. Haydn Jones, Pandy Square, has on show a special selection of ties, hats and caps, silk handkerchiefs suitable for season's presents. Jones and Evans are specialising in the Derby Acquatite coats. Metford Bros. are exquisitely dressed with equally ex- quisite gentlemen's wear. Many fine shirts and articles of hosiery are here dis- played for the benefit of those who like to be smartly dressed. CHRISTMAS BAZAARS. Father Christmas has arrived at Mr. D. R. Davies, the popular draper, Chel- tenham House, Tonypandy, with big loads of delightful toys all the way from Toy- land. Mechanical toys, engines, trains on rails, steam engines, motor cars, soldiers, sailors, niggers, horses, building bricks, boxes of tools, puzzle blocks, drawing slates, pencil boxes, balls, guns, pop guns, pistols, &c., and oh! such lovely dolls! Bring the little folks to see this pretty show. The Children's Paradise is a suit- able cognomen for Messrs. Evans and Short's grand display of novelties for the juvenile mind. Trains on rails, dolls, farmhouses, sweet-shops, roundabouts, aeroplanes, castles, and toys of every description are here stocked in great quantity. Apparently, Father Christmas has been very busy at this establishment. Something for the older ones may be had also, as the large stock of fountain pens, Christmas cards, leather goods, local and other views, Ac., is very choice and. well assorted. Side by side with the above is the Temple of Fashion, where hundreds of toys, games, dolls, Teddy bears, mechani- cal toys, model railways, magic lanterns, cinematographs, air rifles, &c., are to be found in astonishing bewilderment. Father Christmas has certainly not over- looked this shop, judging from the crowds of happy youngsters who view these good things with eager anticipation. Mrs. W. P. Thomas, lower end, Tony- pandy, has also a very extensive stock of good things to make the little ones laugh and crow with delight. Something can be found here to make glad the hearts of both old and young, and a visit should surely be paid to this nretty bazaar. CHEMISTS. The chemists generally seem to have almost forgotten that they ever were chemists, and have apparently entered into a league, with Santa Claus with the idea of supplying everyone with a pre- sent of some description. The windows of Mr. John Davies, the Cash Chemist, Tonypandy, are sweetly stocked with almost everything, in the shape of presents anyone could wish for. A great amount of pains have been spent on dressing his windows, and this labour has not been in vain. Besides these, cigars and cigarettes occupy a prominent place in the windows; also a large stock of perfumery. Wines of excellent quality are to be procured here. Mr. Emrys Richards, the chemist and optician, lower end, Tonypandy, is very topical in his window decorations. He has had placed there a representation of the South Pole, and draws a comparison between the nearness the Antarctic ex- pedition got to the Pole and the near- ness we are to Christmas. Mr. Richards has a host of seasonable goods on show, and he would be a difficult man to please who could not obtain something to his satisfaction. One of Mr. Richards' most useful presents is a pair of 10-ot. gold filled spectacles, with curl sides to go round the ears, fitted with the finest polished lenses, the price ranging from 12s. 6d. upwards.
