Theatre Royal, Tonypandy. Her Secret Lover" occupies the boards of the Royal this week and has created quite a favourable impression. It 16 presented by Mr. and Mrs. Kimberley's company; and in the character of the ieroine, i; Ivy Seymour," Miss Lilian Herries achieves a remarkable success in her impersonation during a series of pathetio and startling incidents. The character of the jealous husband, <( Gilbert Seymour," is well portrayed by Mr. Harry T, Wood. A capital character well sustained is that of Captain Rose," the faithful friend (Mr. Walter Clarke). Mr. G. H. Wr* Iiiit appears as the villain of the play" John Strange," who poses as the ( Secret Lover," and in his capable acting of th« part is ably assisted by his confederate, Alicia Roy ale (Miss Amy Ellam). There is not much humour introduced, but what there is is made the most of by Miss Beatrice Reynolds as "Jane Maria Wilkes" and Mr. Lancelot Usher as Bill Burley." Next week, Mr. Frank Adair and his íIramatio company will produce The Heathen and the Christian," a story of hate, love and revenge. The scenery for this drama is painted from photographs taken in China, and the dresses and other accessories are actual trophies from China used in the Boxer Rebellion. Mr. Duckworth has been successful in arranging a. welcome return visit of Messrs. Armitage and Leigh's company, so greatly appreciated in their recent visit with Lucky Durham." They will open on the 1st November at the Royal with Leah Kleschna," a magnificent production, which has been received with rapture by the most fastidious audiences in London and the provinces.

Palace, Porth. The premier offering of a very good programme at the Palace this week are the comedians. Regan and Ryan, who by their versatility, patter, dancing and Bongs are responsible for convulsive laughter and loud applause. Equally mirthful is Ernie Myers. His patter is smart and witty, and his songs are also good. Myers is certainly a comedian of great merit and is greatly appreciated. Margit and Lener, Continental eccentrics, in their refined act, "Wet Paint," are exceedingly good, and are accorded great applause; Misa Lily Lonsdale is a very charming vocalist, possessing a beautiful soprano voice. Her songs are well-chosen and well-sung, Patti Yoli, comedienne and elegant dancer, also makes a decided impression; while Baby Vi Davies, the child actress, vocalist and mimic, is superb. Her stage talents are almost phenomenal. Uncommonly clever are Lievin and Pantzer, Their acrobatic and equilibristic feats are greatly appre- ciated. Tom E. Hughes, refined come- dian, is an excellent vocalist, who is an instantaneous favourite with the audi- ence. Ken way and Emery, in their comedy duologue, Turtle Doves," are also very good. The Palascope picture, "The Adopted Child," is well up-to-date. Nest, week, there will be a starring engagement of the one and only Reano and his famous band. Reano is described as the modern Svengali," and this nomenclature is certainly not misapplied. To see him conduct his band is to see a revelation in orchestral conducting and in orchestral ensemble. Their performance f Tchowsky's "1812" Overture is a musical feast that certainly should not be missed. There also will be a full variety programme.

Tivoli, Pentre A tremendous attraction will draw crowded houses this week—it is the power- ful dramatic act, Saved by Wireless," produced by. Gilbert Heron and Com- pany. The episode shows how an im- provement upon the Marconi wireless telegraphic apparatus, devised by Harry Grant, resulted in the possibility of a Paris to New York direct cablegram. The stage represents the interior of the New York Marconi Station, with Dick T Medway" (Mr. T. R, Norbury) at his work as operator. His old chura Harry Grant (Mr. Gilbert Heron), visits him, while accomplices set fire to the house of Dick Medway. Grant is left in charge of the station, and succeeds with his instru- ments in cabling to Paris, and clears the line for the results of Paris races, for which his evil companion, "Martin Lancaster (Mr. Langford Reed), and he anxiously await. Meanwhile, news comes of the wreck of the Cunard liner, Slavonia," containing the wife and child of Harry Grant. This crisis brings Grant back to himself, and he summons couragel to destroy himself, but is saved by .Dick Medway, The real character of Grant is disclosed, but the saving of the Slavonia's passengers as the result of his magnificent invention results in hapny life for all again. The acting is really excellent, that of Mr. Heron being ex- ceptionally fine. The instruments used on the stage were supplied by Marconi's Wireless Telegraph Co., Ltd., and the whole act is intensely dramatic. The Whittakers produce a very clever comedy skit, Dick Whittington." The male member is very successful as a cat-his y s-L antics being very funny. The Arntes are undoubtedly the best pair of coloured dancers seen locally; they are real sun- beams from North Carolina. Their ex- pert dancing, especially in high-heeled shoes, is remarkable. Gillin is very successful in a unique humorous turn, employing ventriloquism. The Sisters Desmond contribute two very original duets or musical debates. Both are good vocalists and rare actresses. A local baritone who has achieved remarkable success, demonstrates his ability once again. Renderings of True, true till Death" and" Thora" were given by Mr. Harry Elwyn Evans in excellent style. Haig and Novel are successful in refined comedy act; while Zena Pana is also to be congratulated.

Clarence Theatre, Pontypridd. The dramatic love play, For Her Husband's Sake," will be produced at the Clarence Theatre, Pontypridd, next week by Mr. Millar Anderson's company. The popular actress, Miss Henrietta Schrier, appears as "Eslle Brandet.

Cardiff Empire. GEORGE GRAY AND GEO. FORMBY NEXT WEEK. A very fine all-round company has been secured for Cardiff Empire next week. George Gray, The Fighting Parson," is at the head of affairs and will present his latest sketch, entitled Parson Gray, V.C. a story of love and bravery. George Formby, the famous Lancashire comedian, is to be found at the bottom of the bill. George was born at Aslxton- under-Lyne, although he spent most of his youth at Wigan. I was apprenticed to the moulding," he says, in a foundry, but never served my time. I think they got rid of me because I was silly-I was always silly," and the comedian grinned [ in a manner which seemed to suggest that his silliness had been by no means to his disadvantage. The favourite Irish comedian, Joe O'Gorman is another attraction of next week's company, J. A. Wilson and his talented canine partner; Mavis Clare, a charming soprano vocalist; Derenda and Green, juggling comedians; the West- woods, expert comedy cyclists; the St. Johns, musicians and dancers; and Ross and Lewis, the clever Yankee Doodle duo, are also due.

"Our Miss Gibbs." "Our Miss Gibbs," the latest and greatest Gaiety success and the talk of the musical world, is the attraction at the New Theatre on Monday next, the 25th inst., for six nights and Saturday matinee. This musical play, since its pro- duction in January last, has had the unique distinction of attracting Royalty twice in less than six months, Her Majesty the Queen, Princess Victoria and suite honouring the Gaiety Theatre with their presence on each occasion. Mr. George Dance's principal company, which visits Cardiff on Monday next, stands alone for magnificence of mount- ing, &c. No expense has been spared in any department; it is rightly described as Second to none."

Hippodrome, Tonypandy. The entertainments at the "Hippo" not only grow in popularity, but also in quality, and this week another excep- tionally fine programme is presented. High praise must be given to Mr. Charles Coborn, the original Man who Broke the Bank of Monte Carlo." His business is great, firstly as the lady beauty doctor, and afterwards as the costermonger taking the chair at a costers' friendly lead. Need- less to say, Charlie brings the house down twice nightly. The Forestiers are very successful in a powerful dramatic sketch, A Society Sinner whilst Morris and Myers are exceedingly clever as Hebrew impersonators. Sergeant Powell is greatly appreciated in his entertainment of mili- tary illusions. The pictures are again of absorbing interest, including a beautiful Indian love story—" The Mended Lute," and a beautiful picture series in natural colours, entitled On the Banks of the Ganges." Next week, another magnificent pro- gramme will be given, including Miss Ghita Corri, the ladv with a. voice which must be heard to be believed.

Opera House, Treherbert. A special attraction is presented here this week in the shape of Messrs. Silverstone and Wright's company in the interesting drama, The Nihilist," or a interesting drama, The Nihilist," or a prince's secret wedding. The piece is intensely enthralling, dealing principally with the horrors and atrocities meted out to the downtrodden subjects of that despicable king—the Czar. It also shows to what extent Nihilism is carried on and makes no mistake as to what Nihilism means. Mr. George Mitchell, as "Ivan Nowasky," secures a powerful grip on the heart-strings of his auditors, and Mr. O. Silverstone plays the part of Prince Alexander to perfection. Miss Florry Kelsey fulfils the role of Princess Olga with the requisite amount of dignity; whilst Miss Edna Clare, as Alexina Orloff," is excellent as the secret wife of Prince Alexander. All the other parts are capably filled. The New Barmaid will make a wel- come appearance for six nights next week. The New Barmaid" is one of the merriest, brightest musical comedies now before the public, alike having visited and revisited every first-class theatre in the Kingdom with unprecedented success. A strong company has been organised under the direction of Mr. Alexander Loftus, and includes many well-known and favourite artistes, chief among whom may be mentioned Mr. Charles Adeson as Mons. Bonsor," Mr. Llewellyn Hughes, Mr. S. H. Bertram, Miss Vera Grafton, Miss Trixie Erie, Miss Florence Millington as. the New Barmaid," and Mr. Alex- ander Loftus as Bertie White," one of the most amusing character studies imaginable. There is also a full chorus of attractive ladies, a troupe of speciality dancers, and orchestra, under the direc- tion of Mr. J. Wilbraham, and with new and elaborate scenery, handsome dresses, and all the latest up-to-date numbers, The New Barmaid should score a big success.
