Hippodrome, Tonypandy. The extra good programme at the Hippo has been responsible for the crowded houses that have been the rule this week. The great attraction is un- doubtedly the picture drama, lasting about. fifty minutes, entitled Drink, dealing with an incident from real life and depicting with startling realism the -ig awful curse of intemperance. It is the greatest moral lesson in pictures we have seen, and should certainly work a great amount of good in this locality. At the top of the variety portion of the pro- gramme is Harry Blake, the well-known London comedian and of the Two Bees and Hiawatha fame. Harry's comical- ities are irresistible, and his efforts to please are keenly appreciated. Harry Elliston and Company score a tremendous success in their sketch, Aunt Matilda," whilst the Sisters Brand charm the boys with their chic dancing. The Brothers Brooks are two very clever fun merchants; and the beautiful La Belle Sylvia, vocalist and acrobatic dancer, with her catchy songs, completely cap- tured her_ auditors. The rest of the pro- gramme is rounded off by a splendid series of bioscopic pictures. In our advertising columns is announced the tremendous Bank-Holiday attraction.

Theatre Royal, Tonypandy. It is seldom that the patrons of ihe Royal have an opportunity of witnessing a drama so thoroughly American as that presented by the company performing Aci-os-s the Frontier" this week. The play is in four acts and teems with ex- citing incidents. The leading roles are taken by Mr. John Soden and Mr. F. H. Neville, the former appearing as Arizona Joe," scout and detective the latter as the Chief of the Black Hawk Indians." They are well supported by the other members of the company. Friday night is set apart for a special performance of a semi-sacred high-class play dramatised from Victor Hugo's "Les Miserables," entitled The Sinner that Repenteth," in which the entire company will appear. The attraction provided for Bank- Holiday week is Carr Elkington's popular drama, The Guiding Star," which will, no doubt, attract crowded houses.

Tivoli, Pentre. The above place of amusement opens next week with an excellent programme. Topping the bill are the Five Burnells, in their popular sketch, On the Links." A very attractive item are the Robertys, who have made fame as equilibrists and jugglers of more than ordinary merit. George Collins, a favourite music hall artiste, will contribute some of his latest successes; whilst a turn of a more novel kind will be contributed by the Four Athos, ball manipulators. Others on the bill are Miss Florence Smithers, supported by Mr. Owen Dacroy and com- pany, in a comedy sketch, Our Mary Jane"; Sylvene, equilibrist; the Sisters Edwardes, dancers and drummers; and the Tivoliscope. Owing to the new work- ing arrangements at the pits, the first performance will commence at 6.30 and the second at 8.30.

Palace Porth. After a short vacation, the Palace opens with a programme next week that, for excellence, has rarely been excelled in South Wales. Morny Cash, the great Lancashire comedian, tops the bill. Kioto and Esa will present an unique perform- ance of ladder and equilibristic acts, which is one of the most sensational turns on the boards. Babs Lloyd, the clever come- dienne and dancer, is sure of a. good reception; whilst Learto and his clever dog is a turn worth seeing. The Bros. Bright, Tray and Rich, Rose Sartella, and Howe and Hardie are others on the same bill. Patrons will note that the performances commence half an hour earlier than was the case last winter, owing to the change in the working times at the collieries.

Opera House, Traherbart. On Monday next, the above place of amusement will be re-opened with a grand wrestling tournament, animated pictures, and variety company. Albert W. Coles, the Welsh miner and wrestler, will ap- pear, and will present E23 to any British wrestler lasting 15 minutes, conditionally on that sum being posted for a match to a. finish. On Monday evening next, Gunner Elliott, of H.M.S. "embroke," will oppose Coles for the £25. Other well- known wrestlers will appear. For next week only, the magnificent film" The King's Visit to Gloucester," will be shown.

Clarence Theatre, Pontypridd. Topping the bill at the Clarence, Ponty- pridd are the Cattaneo Troupe of Acrobats, who do some extraordinary jumping and tumbling. Other good items on the programme are the Cameron Troupe of Dancers Queenie West, come- dienne and dancer; the Two Virginias, duettists and dancers; Maude Esmond, chorus artiste; Walter Wemerson, come- dian; which, with illustrated songs by Cissie Coman, and some good pictures on the bioscope, make up a most attractive evening's entertainment, which is given twice nightly this week. For Bank-Holiday week, Mr. Trenchard has secured Mr. Percy Williams' dramatic company, in the successful play, "Alone in the World," a pathetic story of child I life, by Hal Reid. There will be a special matinee on Monday afternoon at 2.30.

Cardiff Empire. A well-selected holiday programme has been arranged for Cardiff Empire. Clark and Hamilton, the favourite American comedy duo, occupy an important posi- tion on the bill. Bread makes my bread and butter," Bert Clark once facetiously remarked; of coui-so,, alluding to the amount of genuine fun he gets out of the loaves of bread in the act. But it is bread plus talent that has made this duo famous, for Mr. Clark holds many medals and diplomas as a pianist. Fred Karno's Mumming Birds Com- pany will also be seen next week. Chris Richards, the clever comedian and eccentric dancer the New York Nippers, in a vocal and dancing act; G. C. Doughty and Company, in a comedy sketch Geo. Sylvesta Kerr and Kos; and that bright little comedienne, Jennie Johns, complete the list of attractions. For some years Miss Johns has been a great favourite in Mr. Elliston's pantomimes, and she is now making great sti-ides in the favour of variety theatre patrons.

Railway Brrangements for the Holidays. The Rhondda and Swansea Bay Rail- way Company have made extensive arrangements for competing with the extra holiday traffic.
