Porth Chamber of Trade. Presentation to Former Secretary The monthly meeting of the above Chamber was held on Wednesday evening last at the Washmgtan Hotel, Porth. Mr. D. M. Jones presided over a very representative attendance. Discoursing upon the excellent financial condition of the Chambei-j the Chairman attributed the cause to the fact that they possessed in Mr. Williams such a capable organising secretary. Other gentlemen expressed their con- currence with the tribute. Re the question of the Rhondda Head Post Office at Portly and the suggested opening thereof on the occasion of H.R.H. Princess Louise's visit, the Secretary announced that the Postmaster-General had not been able to grant their request. Subsequently it was stated that the Porth Post Office had already been trans- formed into a Head Office, and that a postmaster had been appointed, who would take up his residence at Porth in the course of a few weeks. It was further stated that the present postmaster had been appointed to a good position elsewhere (applause). Apropos of the recent appeal to Mr. Andrew Carnegie for a Free Library, the. Secretary read a letter to the, effect that Mr. Carnegie did not send rules, &c., in advance, but that each application was treated unon its merits. If the people of Porth desired his assistance in getting a public library and building, they should have the Mayor and Council to apply to him, and stating that they were pre- pared to levy the necessary penny rate for its upkeep. Upon the motion of Mr. T. Davies, who expressed his opinion that the present time was not an opportune one to discuss the question, the matter was deferred to another date. Upon the motion of Mr. T. Davies, it was resolved to ask Mr. J. W. Hutchinson to solicit the support of Sir W. T. Lewis, Aberdare. to the appeal of the Chamber to the Talf Vale Railway to widen and drain the Llwyncelyn Bridge. The husineslsl part of the agenda having been disposed of, Mr. T. W. Young, the late secretary, was made the recipient of a beautifully illuminated address and a purse of gold, as a token of the Cham- ber's appreciation and gratitude for past services. Amongst those who testified, to Mr. Young's ability were Messrs. D. M. Jones, Wm. Evans, Williams, Bon (secretary)), J. T. Jones, and T. Davies. Responding, Mr. Young enres.sed his great appreciation of their kindness, and assured them he would always have a warm corner in his heart for Porth.
Local Wedding. DAVIES-YOUNG. A very pretty wedding took place at St. Andrew's Church, Llwynypia, on Wednesday, last, the 30th ult., when Mr. Harold Davies, of 322, Brithweunydd Road, Trealaw, formerly of Thomas Street, Clydach Vale, was united in the i bonds of matrimony to Miss Bessie Young, of Woodbine House, Trealaw, eldest daughter of the late Mr. CHiarles Young, Tonypandy. The bride, who looked charming in her pretty wedding costume, was attended by Miss Eliza Middleton, and her sister, Miss Anniei Young, who acted as bridesmaids. The bride was given away by her brother, Mr. Wm. Young. The Rev. E. W. Hughes, B.A., performed the ceremony, in the presence of a large number of interested spectators. The con- tracting parties are well known and highly respected in the locality," both being earnest churchworkers in connection with All Saints', TreaJaw. The hanny pair left after breakfast (at the home of the bride) for Porthcawl on their honeymoon.
Foreign Trade in Coal. A very instructive publication on the above has just been published by the Business Statistics Publishing Company, Cardiff. This publication, which was written by Prof. Stanley Jevons, of the Cardiff University, is the first of a series of publications to be issued by the Economics and Political Science Dprt- ment of the South Wales and Monmouth- shire University College, with a view to giving an opportunity for the publication of descriptive and theoretical accounts of the commerce and principal industries of South Wales, and of the economic and social conditions of the coalfields. It is hoped to publish two numbers every year. Prof. Jevons deals in an exhaustive manner with the growth of British exports of coal, and the exports of leading pro- ducing countries, together with thei chief markets for British coal. The next number will be The Transport Facilities in the Mining and Industrial Districts of South Wales and Monmouth- shire," by Clarence S. Howells, B.A. (University of Wales), Lecturer in Com- mercial Geography at the City of London College.

Cricket. LLWYNYPIA v. BRITON FERRY. A record gate witnessed the above match, advertised as the match of the Season, at Llwynypia last Saturday. The visitors were very strongly represented, and the fact that they had defeated Plymouth Merthyr and other important teams made local supporters anticipate a good game. Nor were they disappointed, for, despite the unfavourable weather, Some very good batting was seen. John's display was very good; but the chief feature of the match was undoubtedly the bowling of Llwynypia's, latest recruit, Ken. Richards. He seems to be a valu- able acquisition to the team, as his six wickets for 41 runs will testify. It is to pe hoped that this form will be kept up m future matches. Great efforts were ttiade to get the home team out in an hour and a half, but thanks to Edmunds, James and Davies, a draw was the result.
