The Labour Master said that prisoner came to the Casual Ward, but when asked to break stones, he replied that. he had never done any work in his life, nor intended to do any. When remonstrated with, he struck witness, and assistance was requisitioned to put him into a cell until a policeman arrived. Defendant saitl that ho refused to break stones because he had lost one eye, whilst the other was affected, and he was afraid of losing it. Defendant added that the labour master had threatened to knock his other eye out unless he did the work. The Stipendiary: You will be sent to a place where they will make you work. Fourteen days. EMILY'S RECORD. I E-mily RetaJlick made her 177th appear- ance iu Police Ckmrt proceedings, when she was charged with drunkenness at Pontypridd on the previous Saturday night, and annoying a, respectable man by putting her arms round a respectable man's neck (laughter). Defendant denied this, and said she was embracing the "chucker out" of the Park Hotel to save being ejected from the hotel. Emily made an impassioned appeal to be given one, more chance." "Gaol," .she added, "has sent me clean off my head I have' been there so much." Kindness does not seem to have done you much good," replied the .Stipendiary, but we will give you one more chance, and adjourn the case for a month." WiJI you lend me my rare to go away, and I'll send it back to the Inspector," was Emily's last futile request. MOTOR OFFENCES. When asked to show his license, Williams said that he was only learning to drive, and that he would be given a license after having been properly taught. For the defence, it was contended that Williams drove the engine without in- structions from hia employer. The change aga-inst Lewis was dismissed, whilst a. fine of 10s. was imposed upon Williams. Mr. H. Walker (Messrs. Treharne and Treharne, Pentre) appeared to defend in both cases. ? MAINTENANCE ARREARS. Margaret Evans, a blind woman, resid- ing at Penrhiwfer, summoned her hus- band, James Williams, labourer, Neath, for arrears under' a. maintenance order made in September last. Defendant said that his work was very irregular, but promised to pay as soon as possible. On an undertaking being given that he would pay ;&1 the following Saturday, and the balance in a fortnight, the case was adjourned for a month. RAN AWAY FROM THE MI6SIONER. William Jones, colliery labourer, Clydach Vaile, was charged with assault- ing Wm. Thos. Madge (18), painter, Clydach Vale. Mr. A. T. James (Messrs. Morgan, Bruce, and Nicholas) appeared for complainant, and Mr. Jas. Phillips defended. Complainant said that whilst proceed- ing home from work on February 1st, defendant made on onset on him, struck him in the face, and kicked him several times on the ground. The contents of a pot of paint he carried in his hand was spilt OVl' his clothes, completely ruining bis ,suit. Defendant took to his heels when Mr. Davidson, the former Police Court missioner, appeared on the scene. Mr. Davidsou said that defendant treated the young complainant in a. most brutal manner, but ran awa'y when wit- ness approached him. Witness gave chase, but failed to catch him. Defendant admitted striking complain- ant, adding that it was done because Madge had called him "a —— waster." Complainant, he said, was habitually calling him bad names, Mid declaring that he was "v, fancy man" with his mother. A fine of L-2, including casts. waa tm- posed.

Th<a cnfe LattdsHp A meeting of the Relief Committee was held at the Assembly Rooms, Pentre, on Friday night, when the secretary, Coun- cillor Walter Williams, reported that a sum of .628 had been collected towards the tsufferers in connection with the recent landslide. The Committee will again meet on Friday evening this week to decide as to the allocation of the money. We have received a letter from Mr. Alt. Wililiams (the father of the young lad who- was killed in the above land- slide) to the effect that the statement in our last week's issue, that the Colliery Company had subscribed EIO towards the funeral expenses, is incorrect, and that he has not received a penny from the Company or from their representatives. I The information was e'iven us in all good faith, and we regret that its publication ha.s given cause for some embarrassment.

Severe headaches followed, aud so iiitciiss were they tha.t I could hardly move for the pain they caused. They \ou!d leave me feeling í'ick aud dizzy. So weak," she continues, did I become, tliat my body was open to the ravages of disease. Pains nrst came in my feet and legs. It became difficult for me to move about, and I soon became aware that I was suff- ering from Rheu- matism.Iwould hobble about as well as I could, but it was slow and tedious work. For the best part of four years my Rheu- matism got worse tnstead of better. r<ach remedy that I took only seemed to leave me in a worss plight. At last, when my Rheu- matism had obtained a complete mastery over me, and when I was giving up iu despair, thinking that no cure was possible, I ca:he across Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills. The change that came over me after I had taken a few bottles I shall never forget. My aches and pains seemed to vanish as if by magic. The Rheumatism went as well as the Constipation, Head- aches, and Weakness that had so long troubled me." Mrs: Day, again writing on June Tth, 1908, three years after the above was written, says I continue to take and recommend Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills, and find them a-) effective now to keep my system in order as when I first began taking them.
