Royalty Visit to Rhondda. Princess Louise to Open Judge Williams' Memorial Hall. Mr. Tom Davies, Ton-Pentre, and Mr. T. E. Richards, M.E., agent of Locketts Merthyr Collieries, secretary and chair- man of Executive of the General Sir Charles Warren Shield Competition, re- cently paid on official visit to Kensington Palace, to present the programme for the approval of H.R. Highness Princess Louise, the Duchess of Argyll. Her Royal Highness lias arranged to pay a visit to Mardy on Saturday, July 24th, to pre- sent the valuable trophy presented by the gallant soldier, together with prizes and certificate to the successful squads. Mr Tom Davies has also succeeded in inducing Her Royal Highness to pay a. visit to the Rholldda. Fawr District, on July 23lvd, so that both valleys may be honoured with a royal visit. H.R.H. will be accompanied by his Grace the Duke of Argyll. Arrangements have also been made by Mr Davies which her Highness has approved of, to officially open the Memorial Hall, presented by Mr. Rhys Williams, baiTister-at-law, to the residents of Trealaw, in memory of his father, the late Judge Williams, on her way up the valley. Great prepara- tion,1? will be made for the Royal visit, and under such able hands as Mr Davies' we have no doubt the visit will be a great success. During their stay the Royal party will be the guests of Mrs. Gwilym Williams at Miekin Manor.

Sport of the Week. MERTHYR, 10p~ TREHERBERT, Nil. This Welsh league match was played at Treherbert on Saturday, in glorious foot- ball weather, and before a good gate. No new players turned out for the home team, and the spectators were somewhat disappointed. Matters were fairly even at the commencement, and the home at- tacks were well repulsed by Reed, the Merthyr custodian. Treherbert were going strong at about the middle of the first half, and Edwards broke through with a splendid burst. He passed to Francis, who took the ball at full tilt, and was almost over when he was brought down by a brilliant tackle a yard from the line. Immediately afterwards, Fitz- gerald missed a beautiful chance of open- ing the scoring from a penalty kick in front of the posts. The interval was signalled without any score. Merthyr seemed to wake up in the second half, and aftei, attacking for some time, Sid James dropped a nice goal from an easy position. Merthyr continued the attack, and from a scrum near the line, Harris, inside half, received from his forwards, and got over smartly on the blind side. Sid James failed to convert. Reed next scored after a good run, and James again failed to convert. Not long afterwards he placed a. good penalty goal. COMMENTS. The weight of the visitors told consider- ably on the home team, and during the second half, Merthyr were able to ex- hibit their superiority because Treher- bert were almost worn out. There was not much to choose between the per- formances of the two quartettes, but Merthyr were very much stronger at half. Treherbert forwards played well, but could not do much against the much greater weight of the opposing pack. SWINTON, 16pts.; MID-RHOND DA, 7. Swinton got their initial score through a pretty movement initiated by Jones, their inside half, Armston being the scorer. The second try was a gift, for J. N. Jones had tapped the ball. which had been sent over the line, with his hand to the ground, but this was not "grounding" and Johnson, dashing up, fell on the oval and gained a try. Then Armston again got over after a strong run, and Walworth showed determina- tion in going for the line when he scored. Eddie Rees dropped a good penalty goal for Mid-Rhondda and Matthews made a try in a melee subsequent to smart inter- changes between J. and E. Rtes, which gave Mid-Rhondda the attacking position. PENTRE UNITED Opts., ABER- CYNON 0. The visitors played only eleven men during the whole game, so that to be defeated was not the fault of those who turned out. The game was very much mixed up, but there were occasional rounds of passing by the Pentre backs, who should have scored several times but for the selfishnes.s or lack of judgment of the centres. Of the Pentre team, Scott deserves special mention for his display as inside half. NANTYMEL OLD BOYS C)t)f. BRIDG- END OLD BOYS 0. On Saturday last, the Nantymoel Old Boys entertained the Bridgend Old Boys at the Big Field, Nantymoel. After a hard and exciting game, the homesters ran out victors by 2 tries to nil.

Association. TREORCHY THURSDAYS v. SWAN- SEA VILLA RESERVES. This Swansea League match should have been played at Treorchy last Thurs- day, but unfortunately the secretary of the home team received a letter on Tues- day morning from the Swansea Villa Secretary, saying that they were unable to raise a team. This was a great dis- appointment to many who were looking forward to this match. The game will probably be played on March 4th. The homesters, by a stroke of luck, had a visit from Pontypridd Y.M.C.A., when a keen and interesting game was wit- nessed, Treorchy winning by three goals to one. YNYSHIR ALBIONS, 3 goals; CAERAU RESERVES, 2. The Albions started before a good crowd and very soon scored through Hughes, Nash making a poor attempt to clear. Caerau after this reverse, went at it with a bang, and Pavis easily beat Lewis. Good play by the Albions forwards re- sulted in Davies scoring No. 2, but tf e Albions did not keen their lead long, for Cook beat Lewis with a nice shot. After the interval, the only thing of note in an uninteresting game was a splendid goal by Lawrance for the Albions. For Caerau Pavis and Davies played hard, and the nick* of the Albions was James and Smith. MID-RHONDDA ALBIONS, 3 TYLORSTOWN CRUSADERS, 1. This League match was played at Tylorstown. Neither teams were at full strength, the homtvters being minus Hopkins in goal. The home backs were early called upon to defend, the visitors showing good form and were unfortun- ate in not scoring. They were at last rewarded and obtained a goal. This early score woke the homesters, and Webb scored with the best goal of tho match. The Albions again scored after an in- terval, the home backs missing their kicki badly. The visitors obtained their third goal t few minutes after change of ends, and ran out victors by three goals to 1. The Albions fully deserved their victory. The home team were weak, more parti- cular at back. Morris was weak in his new position in goal.

Shots for Goal. Pontypridd Y.M.C.A were due at Treorchy test Thursday to play the Trc- orchy, United. The latter team being dis- banded, the fixture was given to the Thursday team, which had been disap- pointed by Swansea Villa. It is on the boards that several Baseball teams will be formed in Treorchy this season. The game was introduced into the locality last summer by Jack Thomas (ironmonger), and there were several "converts." J.T. intends trying to get a Cardiff team up to start the season. Ynyshir Albions did well at Caerau last Saturday against the Reserves. The lat- ter had the assistance of several members of the first team. --+-- A witness said that the crowd enjoyed watching the burly Reserves knocking down the boys from the Rhondda. It was a bit thick however, when a, 12-stone Caerauite knocked over a 7->stone oppo- nent. --+-- St. Andrews played Hafod on the ground of the latter on Saturday. St. Andrews scored off a penalty through J. Youlden, Hafod equalised in the second half, after a beautiful centre. Winnit, Youlden, Hughes, and Thomas, were the pick of the visitors. --+-- Our printer was a. bit premature last week. To print the score in the match between the Porth Y.M.C.A. and St. Andrews as 29 to nil, was a, bit too good. But there, even football teams profit out of errors at times. --+- The Treherbert exnschoolboys again partook of the sweets of victory on Sat- urday in defeating Abergwynfi on the Cricket Field by the margin of 6 points to nil. W. H. Col will scored one try, and F. Raymond scored the; other. The game was always very fast and very exci- ting. -+- Defeat attended the efforts of the Treherbert Athletic against Ely Rovers at Williamstown on Saturday, the score being 3 points to nil. J. Noble was in- cluded in the pack, and it seems that his inclusion was justified for he played a good game and almost scored. Verily, this team has done well in taking "Rhondda Leader" advice. --+-- We had expectedl to see some great new players turn out for Treherbert on Satur- day against Merthyr; but we were dis- appointed. Dingley, a forward, was the only new man to Treherbert spectators, but he has previously played several away matches. He was, ever prominent, and by his great speed, he overtook Reed, the Merthyr full-back, and brought him down when the line was at his mercy. The Porth Thursdays attribute their defeat at Aberdare last week to hard luck. Moreover, they say of the_ 'Darians' first League team played against them. Thus they were not disgraced. --+-- Aberdarians accuse some of the Athenians with not conducting them- selves properly, saying the-, were more like heathens." --+- We hope this is not true of Porth boys. Misconduct, when away, gives a very bad impression of home life and manners. A Thursday team. especially, should be above others if anything in conduct. A bad reputation is easily gained. May they soon vindicate their honour. The Porth Reserves are nlaying in fine form. On Saturday they punished Ynys- hir rather severely. Very great rivalry exists between these junior teams. But of the 15 matches played between them, Ynyshir have won but one. Tom Evans, who is now playing for Hafod, is making a name for himself, and will soon be in the first rank of footballers. Moulder is also "laying remarkably well, and the Trehafod boys are still entertaining high hopes of winning the South Wales Junior Cup.
