Mid-Rhondda Musings •A sensational incid«at happened at Dinaa last Saturday night. -0-- A passing tram brought down a barber's pole, and a large crowd soon gathered, to the scene of the wreckage. The tram was delayed and the Knight of the Razor was in a fury. Cross- summonses for loss of trade are expected as a result. Two lady passengers had fallen Tast asleep in a tramcar passing through the Uity at a late hour last Saturday night. A fellow-passongar declares that, judged by their mouths, they were either fly- catching, or mutely appealing to the dentist to extract the last few stumps. A correspondent enquires whether any good came out of Nazareth (Williams- town). He supplements this query by saying that not only the House of Lords, the walls of Jericho, must have been shaken by thetrurnpetillg there on Mon- day night. It seems that he dreamed his mother was kissing him, and woke up to find it was the cat. --+- Hendrefadog Street is highly decorated in the week-nights. An enormous number of tubs are placed on the pavement, and are very dangerous to the public on dark nights. --+- I It is time this practice was stopped. One young man fell over one last week, and received a nasty gash.

Fire at Pentre. Timely Discovery of Outbreak. Early on Monday morning, a fire broke out in a lock-up shop at Ystrad Road, Pentre, occupied by the Maypole Dairy Company, Ltd. The fire was discovered by Geo. Sevier, a workman, who was on his way to work about 6 o'clock. He immediately informed the police at Pentrp, and W.S., James) and his men were on the spot in no time. The Fire Brigade, under Captain Collier and Lieutenants Newbury and Edwards, were also on the spot immediately the alarm was given, and were it not for the prompt measures taken by them, a conflagration would be inevitable. The actual damage done was slight, being entirely confined to a room behind the shop. How the outbreak originated is unknown.

Late Rev. John Prichard. The death took place at Newbridge, Mon., on Tuesday of the Rev. John Prichard, father of Mr. W. C. Prichard (Mr. W. W. Hood's private secretary). Deceased was for 22 years pastor of Ainon Chapel, Tonyrefail, and previous to that had charge of Noddfa, Abersychan. Since his retirement, about ten years ago, deceased had lived at Sherwood, Llwyny- pia, and was actively associated with the founding of Beulah Chapel, Pontrhondda, and Moriah Chapel, Tonypandy. He was a man of fine attainments, a preacher of rare power, and a great influence for good in the localities where he minis- tered. The funeral takes place on Friday next at Newbridge.

Genuine astonishment was manifested Uipon the features of Councillor Ben Davies when asked at the Labour Council last week by a member, What was the use of a new gate at the cemetery when it was never opened? --<>- Unquestionably there is a mystery here which requires a Leader" representa- tive or a Sherlock Holmes" to solve. Perhaps there are fears entertained that a certain institution will become in- solvent if it is opened. It reminds us of a deceased local char- acter well known at Porth for his wit. He did not see the necessity of the wal! around the cemetery. "Those within the walls," he said, could not come out even if they desired, whilst those outside are not anxious to get in." *—— But the gate is a matter of convenience for the public, and it should be opened. The Councillor deeply regretted that the gate had been neglected, because he had fought hard to obtain this convenience. i In answer to teacher's quagtioii at church, What does father do on Sun- day? the little girl said her father I stayed home to read. Llwyncelyii Bridge, Porth's mud-pool, the only public bath which we can boast of, has been discovered by a member of the Chamber of Trade. Bridges are generally put up for con- venience. But the majority of pedes- "trians would prefer the risk of being run over by a passing train than cross the Llwyncelyn railway bridge. Not that the bridge is unsound on its foundationp; but an accumulation of the mud of a thousand generations seems to repose peacefully here, and is patiently waiting to be carried with paternal care on boots and parts of passing pedestrians, to whom it clings affectionately as if recognising its constituent elements. It has been moved at the Chamber, and a deputation appointed to see Mr. Beasley with a view of having the bridge widened and also drained. Mothers and daughters would feel very grateful to Mr. Beaslev if the above appeal is granted.
