Blaenclydach. Under the auspices of the Gosen Literary and Debating Society a social tea was held at Gosen Chapel on New Year's Eve. There was a large gathering, and all enjoyed the excellent spread pro- vided. The needs of the guests were attended to by the following ladies: — Miss S. A. Edwards and Miss Lizzie M. Thomas Misses Denyon and Miss Bate- man, Mrs. Matthias and Mrs. Jones, Misses M. Jones, B. Williams and G. Evans, Mrs. Nan Griffiths, Miss Maggie Webber and Miss Alice Phillips; carver, Mr. Evan Jones; cake cutters, Mrs. Price and Mr. T. Felix; while the brew- ing of the tea was in the capable hands of Miss Hannah Lewis. Following the repast, a mock Parliamentary election took place, the following acting as candi- dates :—Conservative, Mr. W. J. Hughes Liberal, Mr. John Davies; Socialist, Mr. j Jenkin T. Rees. The candidates were supported by Mr. Evan Pritchard (Con- servative), Mr. Evan Jones (Liberal), and Mr. Enoch Jones (Socialist). The Social- ist secured a majority of 7 over Liberal and Conservative. After the election, games, &c., were indulged in and con- tinued until the da vn of the New Year. The meeting was brought to a close by the singing of the Doxology.
