it MODERN BURIALS! pv T' the Editor of the COUNTY ECHO. r Si.R,-This week a funeral wended its ) way to an outlying Church graveyard. The procession was led to the church by the officiating clergyman. Here the first inconvenience arose. The coffin had to be placed lengthways on a narrow form, on which, with difficulty, it was made to balance, but not without causing some c{ those present to tremble with fear lest at any moment it would tumble on the floor. In fact, the rev. clergyman stopped in the ■f course of the service and advised its being slightly moved. The ceremony over and the grave reached, the coffin was being lowered when its downward course was abruptly stopped. On examining uhe cause it was found that the grave, which id( was wide enough at the top, was much too N narrow before half the depth was reached. The coffin was then raised, and placed ide, the ceremony being stopped. The grave-digger had to go down again and re-dig the sides in order to widen the grave. This being over, the corpse was the second time lowered to its last resting- place. Surely an effort should be made to .ensure the burial of persons who do not happen to be well to do," with decency and respect. Trusting these few words will reach home. Yours truly, H.
