N.S.P.C.C. Pontypridd Branch. PRESENTATION TO INSPECTOR RUFF. Inspector luff, who has done very service- able work on behalf of the National Society for the Prevention cf Cruelty to Children dur- ing his three and a half year's stay at Ponty- pridd. where he was in charge of a very ex- tensive populous district, has been removed to Maidstone, and with a view of expressing ap- preciation of his valuable services the mem- bers of the local branch decided to make him a presentation. A meeting of the committee was held at the County Court buildings on Tuesday evening, when Inspector Ruff ivaspre- sented with a cheque for a substantial amount the subscribers incrjdmg Lord Aberdare, Mr Godfrey Clark, J.P., Talygarn; Mr and Mrs Gcr-lon Lenox, Pontypridd, Messrs Spickett and Sons, and other well-known ladies and gentlemen who take an active interest in the work of the ^soc'.cty. Mr R. R. Chalke, mana- ger o. -uioycts Hank, Port Talbot, a former secretary of the Pontypridd Branch, in pre. senting the cheque, remarked that it was given to the inspector in recognition of the excellent services he had rendered. He was the first inspector that came to the district, and since his advent the branch had dealt with 533 cases affecting 1,628 children. About 50 of those children had been placed in various institutions and otherwise removed from the custody of offending parents, and there had been 57 con. victions, the aggregate amount of the various terms of imprisonment being seven years, 11 months. and three weeks, the fines imposed amounting to £27 Is 6d. Brief addresses were also given by Mr R. A. Lewis (manager Lloyd's Bank) and Mr C. E. Edwards, solicitor, secre- tary of the local branch, and they bore testi- mony to what Mr Cfcalkc had said regarding tii, ta-n and discretion which had always been si < vn hy In Inspector Ruff m his work, and express.1 their regret in losing ths services of suoh a capable cfficcr. Inspector Ruff, who leaves next week, briefly- expressed his thahks. His succcssor is Inspector Thomas, who was a clerk in the Pontypridd Police Sta- tion prior to becoming an officer for the Na- tional Society. Inspector Thomas has been stationed at Cheltenham, and lately in North Wales.
