Eisteddfod at Gilfach. Goch. LIST OF SUCCESSES. On Mondav a "Diamond Jubilee" eisteddfod was held at the Abcrcerdyn Field, Gilfach Goch. Despite the unfavourable weather there was a very large attendasco throughout, and the competitions were keenly contested. Tho officers were: President, Mr E. D. Evans, Pen- hcolgerig, Merthyr; adjudicators—music, Mr John Price, Rhymney; poetry, Rev J. Gwrhyd Lewis, Tonyrefail; recitations, Rev J. Gwrhyd Lewis and Mr Tcrn John, Llwynypia; timbering and boring, Mr D. Sims Rees, Macsteg. and Mr Dan Evans, Llwynypia; accompanist. Mr T. D. Jcnes, Morriston; conductor, Mr Tom John, Llwynypia. Below will be found the list of prize winners: English recitation. "Henry V," prize 5s; G. Griffiths, Gilfach. Invested by Mr Tom Jones, Ogmore Hotel. Bass solo, "The trumpet shall sound," pri e 10s 6d, Ben Dcvonald, Pentre, invested by Miss Ada Williams. Soprano solo, "I know my Redeemer liveth" (Messiah), prize 10s 6d, Miss Miriam Thomas, invested by Dr N. Morgan. Englyn, "Rbyddid," prize 5s, William Jones, Nantybwch. Ysgrif, "Prif nodweddion bywyd Victoria, Brenliines Prydain Fawr" (English or Welsh, prize 6s: John Jenkins, Gilfach, invested by Miss Beatrice Evans, Duet, tenor and bass, "Gwvs fr Gad," prize 159; Gwilym Taf and Jen—n Rees, invested by Mrs Tom Cosslett. Adroddiad, "Esgyniad Elias," prize 5s, John Jenkins, Gilfach, invested by Miss Mary J. Evans. Pryddest, "Ein Brenliines." prize 21s; Gwilym Elian, Caerphilly, invested by Miss Blanche Evans. Juvenile competition, "Hark, ye merry elves," prize E2 29, and a silver medal; Gilfach Juve- niles, conducted by Mr John Webber. The leader was invested by Miss L. f. Evans. Tenor solo, "Llam y Cariadau," prize 10s 6d; William Rees, Kenfig Hill, invested by Mrs H. T. Roberti. Choral competition, "Gwanwyn," prize five guineas, and chair, value £ 1 Is; Noddfa United Choir, led by Mr William Williams. Miss Annie Jones invested the conductor. Male voice competition, "Valiant Warriors," prize L12 12s, and --old medal, value P,2 2s; Maestey Musicians, cmductor,Mr David John, who was invested by Mrs Snape. Tke second plaoe was occupied by the Mid-Rhondda Choir (conductor, Mr John Llewellyn). Timbering competition (open to timbermen), first prize, 30s; 2, 10s; 1st, John Jones, Porth; 2nd. Thomas Jones, Llwynypia. Timbering competition (open to colliers), first prize, 30s; second, 10s; 1st, John Evan Jones, Gilfach; 2nd, Herbert Jones, Gilfach. Timbering competition (cmen to Dinas Mairf workmen), first prize, 30s; second, 10s. 1st, W. T. Jones; 2nd, Herbert Jones and John Evan Jones. The whole of the prizes in the timbering com- petition were given by Mr Christmas Evans, Merthyr. I
