Common Diseases.
Common Diseases. 1— ANJSMIA. A nremia. is either a. deficiency of red blood cor. pucles, or a shrinkage of them due to defective assimilation, or an impaired condition due to disease. Ansemia is generally to be found in the grow- ing period. Young persons of both sexes suffer more from this disease than when maturi- ty has been reached, although it is sometimes found in persons advanced in years who liave neglected the laws of hvgieno, or, from the na- ture of their occupations, are confined to badly, ventilated sleeping and working rooms. Thus it will be found more prevalent in cities than in the country. Anaemia will be found in young people who have to work in factories, who have to breathe vitiated air, and who neg- lect, or do not from ignorance supply, the ue- cessa.ry aliment of food and drink to maintain and restore the daily waste of energy necessary to support the labour either of brain or hands. The natural consequence of neglecting the fundamental laws of health is a visible pallor— a diminution of roundness and firmness in the muscles, and a lassitude and a sinking weari- ness which unfits the individual to do his or her j daily work either of brain or hand. j The replenishing of tho system from the 3 wasting of tissues which is going on every day can only be accomplished hy the proper assimi- lation of food. It cannot be' done with medicine. It can, however, be accomplished with a perfect, flesh- fcrming, palatable, and agreeable Food Bever- age. Dr Tibbies' Vi-Cocoa is such a Food Beverage, possessing, as it does, wonderful nourishing, strengthening, and stimulative powers, unsurpassed by any other Food Bever- age. Dr Tibbies' Vi-Cocoa is not a medicine. It does simply what it claims to do, and its strengthening powers are being recognised to an extent hitherto unknown in the history of any preparation. Merit, and merit alone, is what we claim foi Dr Tibbies' Vi-Cocoa, and we are prepared to send to any reader who names the "Glamorgan Free Press" (a post-card will do) a dainty sample tin of Dr Tibbies' Vi-Cocoa free and post-paid. Dr Tibbies' VLCocoa, as a concentrated form of nourishment and vitality, is invalu- able; nay, mere than this, for to all who wish to face the strife and battle of life with greater endurance and more sustained exertion, it is absolutely indispensable. Dr Tibbies' Vi-Cocoa is made up in 6d packets and 9d. and Is 6d tins. It can be obtaiped from all chemists, grocers, and stores, or from Dr Tibbies' Vi-Cocoa, Limiteu, 60, 61, and 62, Bun- hill Row, London, E.C.
-_._------------Clyncorrwg…
Clyncorrwg Urban District Council. The monthly meeting of the above Council was held on Thursday, under the presidency of Captain J. G. Morris, J.P., There were also present Councillors J. Davies, D. Richards, J. Richards, W. Mathias, and D. Williams; to- gether with the clerk (Mr Powell) and the sur- veyor (Mr Howells). A complaint having been received concerning the condition of a wall situated on the road be- tween High street and Commercial street, which haxt been damaged by certain person or persons, the chairman and vice-chairman were deputed to inquire into the matter. Mr J. Davies reported that the Council were not in any way liable for the repairing of the wall, as it had not been damaged through any negligence on the part of the Council. TENDERS. The lender of Messrs Davies, Munroe, and Evans, Cymmer, of 5s 6d per lineal yard, for the cutting of drains and the laying of pipes at Cymmer, was accepted. The surveyor (Mr Howells) reported that notices had been served on the owners at 44 High street, and 30, Commercial street, Aber- gwynfi, to repair the drains. Three bonfires had been constructed on the mountains by the 22nd June. As the existing contracts "from weekly scavenging at Cymmer have nine months to run again, they could not without commit- ting a breach of contract invite tenders for daily scavenging, and the Cuairnmn instructed him to consult the Clerk as to coming to an arrangement with the present contractor. Daily scavenging had been arranged to be done for the remainder of the year for the sum of £25. A communication had been sent to Mr Roberts engineer of the GreatWestern Railway Com- pany, with reference to the gate and fencing by Garret's house, and a reply wa-s received stat- ing that the level belonged to the S.W.M. Rail- way Company. ABERGWYNFI WATER SUPPLY. The Surveyor was cf the. opinion that inas- much as the whole of the springs near the Board Schools had been acquired from Lord Dunraven, permanent pipes should be laid to convey the water into Commercial street, in- stead of those tenVporarily laid during the drought of last summer. Plans submitted by Mr Morris for a house near Abergwynfi farm, and for a house in High street for Mr Thomas, were approved of. The report was unanimously adopted The clerk (Mr Powell) read a, letter from a medicaJ gentleman named Dr Newte! who stated that he refused to call at a patient's house owing to its filthy condition. The house, he said, was filled with filthy insects, and he would not call until the place was cleared. The medical gentleman also requested the clerk's advice in the. matter. Mr Powell said that, as a Bill has now been introduced to Parliament on the matter of the prevention of the importation of bugs, etc., into this country, he (the clerk) recommended Dr Newell to consult with the Foreign Secretarv on the matter. (Laughter). 4 CLERK'S SALARY. A committee having been appointed to inquire into the above matter, Mr D. Evans reported that the committee had recommended the foL lowing "That the Clerk be paid the sum of JE75 "er annum as clerk of the Council (exclusive of legal fees, railway expenses, attendance at Courts, Parliament, etc. The recommendation of the committee was unanimously adopted DISTRICT AUDITOR'S REPORT. The Clerk reported that the district auditor had examined the accounts, and reported that the, books had been well and properly kept. Mr D. Evans, according to notice of motion, proposed the appointment of an Inspector of Nuisances, in addition to the surveyor. Mr Evans said that the work had considerablv in- creased, and was now too much to be done b the surveyor. He moved that an Inspector of Nuisances be appointed at a salary of JS78 per annum. FINANCE COMMITTEE'S REPORT. The Finance Committee reported that after all cheques had been drawn, there would e to the credit of the Council the sum of L492 6s 10d. Also there were uncollected rates amounting to £ 565. The report was adopted. ISOLATION HOSPITAL. It having been decided some time ago that the requirements of the district were such that it. was necessary to have an isolation hospital, plans had been drawn for the erection of such an institution. However, a deputation from the Maesteg District Council waited on the Glyncorrwg body with the intention of having the sanction and eo-operation of the latter body to have a joint hospital, to meet the require- ments of the two districts. The deputation con- sisted of Mr James Barrow, J.P. (chairman of the Maesteg Council), Mr W. Thomas, and the surveyor of the District Council. Mr Barrow acted as spokesman, and in the course of his remarks, said that his council had unanimously passed a. resolution to erect a joint hospital for the two parishes, the cost of erection and main- tenance to come from a proportionally joint rate made upon the two parishes. The proposed site was on the hill situated between Cymmer and Tywith, which would be a very convenient place for both parishes. After some further discussion, it was decided on the motion of the vice-chairman, and secon- ded by Mr J. Richards, that a committee con- sisting of the chairman (Captain J. G. Morris), Mr Mathias, and Mr D. Evans, be appointed to meet a similar committee from the Maesteg Council, to go into the details of the matter, and report to the respective Councils by next meeting. This was unanimously carried. I

[2593 MEN, WHY SUFFER, WHEN PROFESSOR KELLY, Licensed Herbalist, Temple of Health, 60 Glo'ste Street, Aberdare, can Cure You Unsolicited testimonials to hand by every post. [TESTIMONIAL.] Dear Sir,—I have very great pleasure in highly recommending your valuable remedy for tits. Three years ago I was looked upon by all who knew me as incurable, and naturally, of course, I had resigned to my fate that I should end my life as a martyr to them. I tried several skilful medical men, but all seemed of no avail, and the serious malady seemed to be increasing. I often had two fits during one night. About three years ago I WAS recommended to try your remedy, and during the whole of the time I was under your treatment I only hid three fits. I am now quite recovered, and hope ttrit I may long enjoy my restoration to health.—I beg remain, yours very gratefully, DAVID EVANS. To Professor Kelly, Temple oi ffealtb. Aberdare.
