P K C on'er which we have in view owes its fatal results either to neglect or ignorance. In its firststage it is always local, and easy to be extinguished by attending to the direc- tions fully pointed out in the Treatise, without the least injury to the constitution: but when neglected or improperly treated, a mere local affection will be converted into an in- curable and fatal malady. What a pity that a young man, the hope of his country and the darling of his parents, should be snatched from all the prospects and enjoy- ments of life by the consequences of one unguarded moment, and by a disease which is not in its own nature fatal, and which never proves so if properly treated It is a melancholy fact that thousands fall victims to this horrid disease, owing to the unskilfulness of illiterate men, who by the use of that deadly poison, mercury ruin the constitution, cause ulceration, blotches on the beari face, and body, dimness of sight, noise in the ears deaf' ness, obstinate gleets, nodes on the shin bones ulcerated sore throats, diseased nose, with nocturnal pains in the head and limbs, till at length a general debility and de cay of the constitution ensues, and a melancholy death puts a period to their dreadful sufferings. Under the Patronage of HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN DOWAGER, His MAJESTY THE KING OF THE BELGIANS, HIS MAJESTY THE KING OF THE FRENCH, HIS ROYAL HIGHNESS THE DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE, HIS GRACE THE DUKE OF WELLINGTON, And a long list of the Nobility. Dinneford's Solution of Magnesia GREATLY IMPROVED IN PURITY AND CONDENSATION. rpfIE great advantages of the Fluid Magnesia are now too well known to require comment. The Proprietor, however, has the pleasing satisfaction to announce, that as a practical chemist, he has, by atten- tion to the process, in a great measure obviated the unsightly crystals and the deposit, which have been the subject of frequent complaint in other preparations, and particularly one imported from Ireland, in a very crude and imperfect state. Among the numerous certificates from the highest members of the Medical Profession are the following, recently received From Sir H. Halford, Bart., President of the Royal Col. of Physicians. "SIR,—I have seen the machinery and the process by which you prepare the PURE Solution of Magnesia, and have been highly pleased by all that I have seen. The preparation is a very nice one to take, and further experience, I dare say, will enable me to declare that it is as effectual in operation, as it is pleasant to taste. 11-1 am, dear Sir, Yours, "HENRY HALFORD. To Mr C. Dinneford, 172, Bond Street. March 21st, 1840." From Sir David Davies, K.C.B., Physician to the late King and Her Majesty the Queen Dowager. "2, Berkeley Street, February 4th, 1840. "Having had frequent opportunities of prescribing Mr Dinneford's Solution of Magnesia, it gives me plea- sure to state. that I have not only found it an efficacious bnt a very agreeable form of administering a valuable medicine, which I consider far superior in purity to any other preparation of the kind that I have yet seen; this I attribute chiefly to tie perfect manner in which Mr D;nneford conducts tte process, and the ingenious machinery employed, both of which I have at his re quest inspected. (Signed) D. DAVIES. Physician in Ordinary to the Queen Dowager." the great advantages of this elegant preparation are, that being in a fluid state, and possessing all the properties of Magnesia in general use, it is not liable to form "dangerous concretions in the bowels." It corrects acidity and relieves heartburn effectually without injuring the coats of the stomach," or producing any of those lamentable evils resulting from the use of the Carbonates of Soda and Potash- it prevents the food of infants turning sour upon the stomach it is very useful in cases of Gout, Gravel, and other complaints of the bladder it tends to regulate the action of the bowels, and is peculiarly adapted for females, pallicularly during pregnancy. NOTE. Purchasers will be careful to ask for DlN- NEFORD'S FLUID MAGNESIA. Too much care cannot be taken to avoid the substitution of impure preparations. Those fabricated in Ireland, especially, are very crude and imperfect; they are imported into this country in leaden and other deleterious metallic vessels- their im purity, too, may be easily detected by the taste, and is even obvious to the sight. » ls The Acidulated Syrup usually sold with tho <4^1 makes the most delightful of Saline Vrt creases the aperient quality. ° DrauSh»' *nd in- Prepared by Dinneford, Family „ jesty the Queen Dowager, and Ifis Iw«l FT°l J?' BIRMINGHAM AND GLOUCESTER RAILWAY. — On Tuesday week an experimental trip was made on this line by a party of the directors, who left Cheltenham at nine o'clock, and after stopping at Eckington, reached Spetcliley about ten. Having stopped at the latter place about a quarter of an hour, they proceeded to Broinsgrove, the trip occupying about twenty-six minutes. Afccr a brief stay at Bromsgrove, the train returned to Cheltenham (the distance between the two towns being about thirty-three miles ) and then aga'11 performed the journey to and fro. The trip was highly satisfactory, and not the slightest accident occurred to mar the pleasure of the day. The line from Cheltenham to the top of the Lickey will be opened to the public at the beginning of next month- IMPORTANT TO ODD FELLOWS.-At the Honour of Pontefract Court of Requests, on Wednesday week, a case of some importance to the members of Odd Fellowship Societies, and other secret orders, came on for hearing. The trustees of the Loyal Harmonic Lodge of Independent Odd Fellows at Armley, sum raoncd John Hudson, of Armley, a member who had been their treasurer, for the sum of XI,5, monies of the Society, which lie bad withheld. The claim of the Society was £ jo 12s 10d, but they had reduced their claim i'1 order to obtain a summitry judg- ment. Mr Nailor,' so,icitor> appeared for the plaintiffs; Mr Bond solicitor, for the defendant. The deputy judge, Mr Marshall, the barrister, non-suited the plaintiffs, as the society had not been enrolled under the Benefit Societies' act, and therefore all the members were partners, and could not sue one another for partnership monies.-Leeds Intelligencer.
