The 2nd Resolution at the Meeting on the 16th of April, having been read a second time, Mr Brunei was requested to give in his Report. The Report of Mr Brunei (the'Engineer employed by the Committee) was then read. It sets fortti the several lines surveyed, and their respective advantages and disadvantages, and it recom- mends as the best and most practicable a line from Gloucester to Newport, Cardiff, and Neath, with a branch Or continuation from thence to Swansea. This road between Gloucester and Newport might take either of two directions—namely, by Monmouth and Usk, or by Newnbam and Chepstow. The Report states that the latter or these lines would be the shortest by six miles, (the distance via Newnliani and Chepstow to Newport being 42 miles, and by Monmouth aud Usk 48,) would also be the easiest of execution with better gradients, and the cheapest by at least £200.000. n the other hand, the communication with Ross and Monmouth, and by a branch to Hereford, and probably td Abergavenny, would be important advantages. And the Report further I states that though Mr Urllnd would be disposed to give a preference to the line by Chepstow, he thinks the line by Monmouth is worthy of consideration. The Report estimates that the expanse of completing the above lines will not exceed the undermentioned sums, viz. — The line via Newnbam and Chepstow to Cardiff. 54 mile. I. i'l 000,000 Cardiff to Swansea 39 miles, 1,000 000 The expences between Gloucester and Cardiff, it is supposed, would fall much short of the £ 1,000,000, this being nearly level and comparatively easy country. v If the road passed through Monmouth and Usk to Newport, £ 200,000 at least must be added, and the above would not he so good, nor could the transit on it be expeditious or cheap. The Report of Mr Bingley, the chief superintendent of traffic, \\a5 read, and numerous calculations made of the value of the positive traffic, and likewise of the value of the expected traffic, by parties present. Moved by Mr Blakemore, seconded by Mr Baker, and Unanimously Resolved, That it is not deemed expedient, at present, to extend the line of Railway beyond Cardiff. Proposed by Mr Baker, seconded by Mr Charles Lloyd Harford and Unanimously Resolved, That it appears to this Committee that great national and local advantages would be derived by the formation of a Railway between Gloucester and Cardiff. Moved by Mi, Hyett and seconded by Mr Prothero, (the Report of the Engineer, as to the various lines which he has surveyed, and that of the Gentlemen employed to take the traffic having been read,) and Resolved, That it is the opinion OF this Meeting that the line by Chepstow and Newnbam is preferable, both as regards engineering facility, and traffic., Moved by Mr Phillips and seconded by Mr Baker, and Unanimously Resolved, 1 hat a Committee be appointed to consider the cost of constructing and maintaining the above line of Railroad, and the probable revenlle it will produce; and that a general meeting of all persons interested in the measure be convened, to be held on the 10th day of Octobor next, at tile Tolse;, in the city of Gloucester, at 12 o clock, in order to consider such report, and determine what turther measures shall be adopted on the subject. That the following gentlemen compose such Committee, three of them to be a quorum:—■ Mr Baker Mr Church f Mr Phillips Mr K. Prothero Mr Weedon Whitcoinbe Mr Chadborn Mr Fox Mr Helps.
